  1. It's legal to "Jailbreak" your iPhone, Xbox, Playstation, etc etc so it's going to be the same with Control4. https://www.wired.com/2010/07/feds-ok-iphone-jailbreaking/
  2. It was illegal before 2010, not any more though. https://www.wired.com/images_blogs/threatlevel/2010/07/dmcaexemps.pdf
  3. I ended up using the Path Setter driver to represents the HDFury. So I put the input to it as the component and the output as the HDMI, just like you have physically with the HDFury. No other config was needed.
  4. I'm not so sure this is for individual users to do. I signed up to this for a company I worked at to integrate our network kit and it was a process for a company to sign up to. Contracts had to be signed etc.
  5. Ignore all those telling you it's hard to do. It's relatively easy even without people to help you. I imagine the people who find it hard to do don't have much background in programming (not talking about using composer to do "programming"). I started to document my learning experience of writing drivers to do stuff a couple of years ago, maybe it will give you the basics of what you need to do: https://c4drivers.wordpress.com I gave up writing it because I found it easier to do the things I wanted to do using the SOAP Api on my external devices. But it all depends on what you want to do.
  6. Completely agree, I too have friends like this. I think my point is that if C4 go for growth, and its not in the consumer end, then the dealers will of course follow for the better rewards. If that happens then what happens to the people who need to swop a switch or replace their TV and need a new driver.
  7. Nope, but it means they are going away from some of the end users on this forum.
  8. Good point. I suppose it's the direction they want to go. there are only so many customers at the higher end, the explosion in growth is at the lower end. When they max out the higher end, how will they increase profits if they can't grow their customers. I think the answer is in another popular thread on $600 remotes.
  9. Anyone know what happens to companies who don't listen to their customers?
  10. Jayaredoubleu you make a very good argument. There are many parallels between home automation and the computer industry in the early days. If you wanted to do custom things on computers in the past you had to spend a lot on a compiler. Now they are free or included. The same with how many computer shops there were 25 years ago, now everyone is more skilled, things are easier to do, and there are hardly any. Will the home automation market go the same way? I wouldn't bet against it.
  11. If you use the onscreen display for lights, security, heating etc then don't upgrade as you loose all of this. The benefits are not enough for me for the loss of functionality. The only hardware I had thats not supported was the touchscreen, but the new app on an iPad is far better. On the plus side the new app is very good, lots of nice things like being able to see which lights are still on, rather than having to scroll the whole house to find them. Also putting shortcuts to things on the main screen are very useful. I've not found any exciting functionality that makes it a must have, but apart from the OSD stuff thats missing its much nicer to have.
  12. and when someone attacks a straw man its the end of the discussion.
  13. Did you read the thread, I think I made it clear that a dealer did the upgrade and I wanted to know if I could roll back myself. There is no need to cast aspersions about people you don't know, as you can see from the other messages it doesn't enhance your reputation. Quite the opposite. Obviously its in C4 & dealers interest that the market is bigger. That comes from more people using their stuff and taking an interest in it - thats how you get loyal users. People asking questions about how things are done is to increase their knowledge, and in turn builds their loyalty. Being told I can't tell you because its a secret has the opposite effect.
  14. Thanks for saying what I was thinking, I'd stopped replying because I could see where this was going. To add the context (which proves your point exactly) I did have it upgraded by a dealer, but wanted to know how it could be rolled back so I knew what was involved. So I could see if I could do it myself or work out how much it would cost in dealer time.
  15. For OS 2 on iOS you can open the url control4v2://test Now the app might not be able to open it directly (apps must contain the urls they open when submitted to apple). But mail and safari don't have the restriction, so you can host a web page on the internet with a redirect in it. Something like <HTML><HEAD><meta http-equiv="refresh" content="1;url=control4v2://test" /></HEAD><BODY>Redirecting to C4</BODY</HTML> Then put the url of the webpage in your app. It will open safari, which will then open this url. It could work for android as well, but I've not looked in the APK to see which intents (urls) it will support. For OS 3 - I couldn't see a url in the info.plist, so it won't work for that.
