d1amund reacted to cdepaola in Cost of C4 Install
When it comes to running wire in an already built home I quote as "Time and Material", unless you have LV conduit in place. Carpenters do some fairly screwy things that then get hidden by drywall and make life very difficult.

From a guy who's been in 100's of attics of all shapes and sizes...and adjusted pricing accordingly.
My recommendation is that if you're going to complain at all about what someone is charging you to work in your attic, go up there and do the work yourself.

Ever been in an attic in Las Vegas in August?

Couldn't agree more. On the flip side, client's concerns are understandable so probably best to just have a frank conversation with the dealer before making more assumptions. Hopefully clarity delivers a win-win all around.

1k to wire up speakers is no more or less reasonable without knowing the difficulties of the task. Attic work...cost can go up especially if it's hot and humid. Difficulties with getting those wires down to the rack may also be present. My point...without an actual walkthrough nobody can tell for sure from the comfort of our desks.

d1amund got a reaction from South Africa C4 user in Cost of C4 Install
Are we to assume the system is already up and running and fully functional, other than the C4 system? If so what you have there is the EA-3 bundled with a remote and charging station. The price is spot on for the equipment and seems low if the system is functional otherwise. If the system is not already installed/functional...i wouldn't touch that for anything less than a grand for labor/programming. You have a good deal if that's a binding quote. And yes I feel the EA-3 is the safe bet.

Get the EA3 now.. it will save you on programming in the future when you want to upgrade.. and you have to switch from the EA1 to the EA3 as the master. Also how many lights are on the caseta system?

The EA3 is better suited if you plan on adding onto the system in the future.

Thanks for sharing. As a software developer you should team up with a hardware engineer and build a better system from the ground up. Keep us posted on your progress...

d1amund reacted to ichbinbose in Doorbird Experiences
After using several Doorbird's all hard wired, I can absolutely attest that what the marketing is vs reality are vastly different.
A couple of notes from Doorbird tech support
Only the first two devices on the LAN will connect locally, the rest (up to 6 for a total of 8) will have to connect thru the cloud.
Two just because it's an onvif does not mean it will actually record to a local nvr
Three if you need to do an ra be prepared for the least pleasurable experience and crappy policy

d1amund got a reaction from wappinghigh in An SR260 with built in IR blaster
Before anyone asks what's behind the front of the remote that looks like a typical IR window...the answer: nothing :-)

I don't find this a stupid idea at all, honestly. Nearly every other "universal remote" has the ability to emit IR codes as well as RF. At the very least this is a good option for just turning on/off a TV that is being controlled via IR since most clients instinctively point it at the display anyway; of course there are scenarios where this won't work and an embedded emitter/232/IP is important...or like the OP stated, as backup when shit fails...and you know it will, just to keep some basic features available to the client.

d1amund got a reaction from msgreenf in Pandora country code?
Have you set their location/zip and country in the project properties? Without that, it won't work.
Double check that...
After that remove the driver and then reinstall it.
