Message:
I am one of the "few" who controls my HC300 via SlingBox.

I'm not sure if it figured into C4's decision, but I set it up this way so I could essentially access the C4 interface from any TV in the house (I already had SlingCatchers on all my TVs). This was a much cheaper option than having buying c4 controllers for each of those locations and also much more flexible since I access other sources with the slingcatchers (including Windows Media Center). So perhaps they wanted to close this "loophole" of people not buying additional controllers.

Granted, I don't use the C4 interface very often, but it is convenient to access the surveillance camera matrix when the kids are playing outside when we're not near the TV that is directly connected to the HC300.

That being said, if/when I do upgrade to one of the new controllers, I will keep my HC300, which should allow me to continue using it as I do now. So for those using a slingbox in this way, your primary loss in upgrading is that you lose the ability to offset some of the cost of the upgrade with the sale of the old controller.

Am I on target in this analysis?

Message:
On the other hand, the CardAccess unit isn't very retro-friendly, either, and a dimmer that could dissipate the dimmer loss for 2000W is *going* to have to have a huge heat sink, so you're not likely to find anyone's dimmer that can handle that big a load in a single-gang drop-in replacement.

RyanE
