  1. @alanchow I'm trying to configure Plex Full driver with Roku client. Plex media server is running on Mac mini. Roku is connected t the same network. The driver is able to find the server with the correct IP. When searching for clients using "Find local clients" button I get this message "No clients online currently"
  2. I have a Mac Mini server running on my network, I'm planning to install Plex Full Media Player on the Mac mini. We used Chowmain driver for Control4. Do I need to connect the Mac Mini server with HDMI cable to the HDMI matrix? Attached is my current setup The Chowmain documentation is not clear. Diagram.pdf
  3. Hi Has anyone experienced the issue whereby when using a FireTV and loading Plex (Via Mini Driver Shortcut), it appears after a while of switching between sources / apps, there ends up being multiple instances of plex running. The result is that when trying to open up a program - it fires open something else that I haven't selected..... Only solution is to force close the Plex App... Wondering if there is a work around (Besides buying a Roku).
  4. Did any of you try to run plex on a apple tv and control it via control4 ? All my movie are on my WD nas and i would like if possible to add a apple tv running plex. Is the allan chow driver will be good for that and integrate it with control4 ? Like a media player ?
  5. So my question is, has anyone installed the Plex Media Server on a vidabox and had good luck? I am running 2 vidaboxes at two different locations with dune Hd base 3ds as the players. The two sites are connected via a IPSEC VPN over FTTH GPON on both sides. When I transfer a large (~30 gig) file from one vidabox to the other across the VPN, I am getting ~50MBps, I would think this is plenty for Dune to play but for some reason dune isn't happy with the tunnel and will start to shutter while playing. I tested the Dune read rate at each site and they are both at ~6.1MBps with remote files and ~28MBps with a local file, which makes no sense. My thought is to install the Plex Media Server on the vidaboxes and use roku 4 as the clients at each location and let Plex compress when needed. Then install the @alanchow Plex driver. Will the Plex driver work with Roku? Any thoughts are welcome.
  6. PLEX driver

newbie here thinking in add the plex driver to my system , anyone using the plex driver? experiences? price? it is worth it?
  7. Hello, I am trying to design and setup at home a C4 system with the following 2 requirements: From the navigator, possibility to search and play any media (Music, Videos, Photos) stored on a NAS and on a dropbox account Having my dropbox synchronized with the NAS, and the Control4 navigator. The objective is to be able to easily take some videos for instance from my iPhone, upload them on my dropbox, and be able to watch them straight on my TV using control4. I also want to be able to edit the titles (and ideally some metadata) easily, in order to facilitate the search from the C4 navigator. I have setup my NAS (Synology) and use a package to synchronized with Dropbox, which works great. I have used Plex in different ways (Package on my NAS, Plex on Roku, Plex on a PC) but always experienced issues with transcoding, which sometimes stopped the videos in the middle, or just totally prevent them from starting. I have also used Kodi, and found it much better in reading my medias: so far, it has always started playing my medias right away without any delay. The problem with Kodi I have is that the driver made by Chowmain does not allow to make a search from the Navigator (only search for the Movies, but not for the Files). I have also purchased a Dune D1 media player but have been quiet disapointed with the GUI and also the driver. However, I have not spent so much time on it yet... If anyone could comment on what I am trying to achieve: is it a common requirements, is it something nobody has ever done, etc...? Best!
  8. I currently have a Drobo that is storing all my movies and acting as my NAS. I was using INFUSE to stream all my movies but have since upgraded to the New AppleTV. I have been trying to use PLEX but it doesn't seem to be scanning my folders completely and picking up all the movies. I am slowly noticing that some movies are missing out of folders here and there. Anything anyone can recommend to stream all my movies, preferable from my appleTV. I am open to other avenues, just need it to be simple. Thanks

Frequently Asked Questions I'm confused which Plex driver should i be using? A while ago we created the Plex Home Theater driver and Plex Media Player driver. These drivers utilised the older Control4 media player interface which could only handle movie integration. Back in August 2015 we released Kodi Full. This driver utilised a new method to display content on Control4’s devices. We decided that we would improve on our Plex driver’s by doing something similar and have named it to match our Kodi Full driver. Plex Home Theater is still an excellent driver and may do everything that you want. Plex Full however is superior to Plex Home Theater and the development time period reflects that. Do i need to the Plex Media Server driver as well? No additional drivers are required to operate Plex Full. Please read the installation PDF to get an understanding on how the driver works and how to set it up. Can you give us some examples of how we could use this driver? Browse/search/playback movies, tv shows, music, photos from Plex.on any Control4 user interface including touchscreens, onscreens, smart phones, tablets and remote controls. Resume content that you have started watching from where you left off from a different Plex client. Complete your media playing solution by pairing our driver with a Roku or an Amazon Fire TV. Both devices can utilise streaming services such as Netflix or Hulu. With our driver installed the customer will now be able to browse/search/playback any of his own personal content on the system. Create the perfect cinema experience by dimming the lights down when a movie starts, ramp it back up when the movie ends or if the user pauses or stops the movie. This driver provides two way feedback on what media you're consuming and what the state of the media player is. It will tell you when the movie is playing, paused, stopped or if it is a video, photo, song or if it is in navigation. This information is useful for customising your lighting and environment to suit your customer's requirements. Start a movie on your tablet and then cast it to your theater to have your theater automatically turn on. Fall asleep at the TV? The driver will automatically turn the room off once the movie has finished after a period of time. Setup a button on your onwall keypad to start playback of you or your family’s favourite movie. One touch playback. Great for kids. Limit the content your children can watch to G or PG-13 rated content by using User/Pin codes. What hardware will this work on? This driver has been tested on Roku (including Telstra TV and Sky Now TV variants), Amazon Fire TV, Sony FY15 Android TV’s, Plex Home Theater (OSX/Windows), Plex Media Player (OSX/Windows). If you choose to use it on any other platform you do so at your own risk. It should work however you will find the problem is launching into the application on the platform of choice. It is recommended that prior to purchasing this driver you utilise the free 48 hour trial period for testing. NOTE: Amazon Fire TV OS 5 and above currently has a bug which do not allow multiple ADB connections simulataneously. If you chose to utilize the the Fire TV with OS 5.0 and above then you cannot add in the official Control4 Amazon Fire TV driver. This is due to a single connection limitation for ADB. You can however utilize the Houselogix Amazon Fire TV driver as it will launch Plex for us. Why do you only support OS 2.7 and above? We utilise methods exposed only to the Control4 OS 2.7 Driverworks software development kit. It will not work with any lower versions of OS. I want to try this driver out before buying it? All Chowmain drivers for Control4 come with a 48 hour trial. This is activated once you add the driver to the project. No additional steps are necessary. 10. Hi guys, Since Kodi Full was such a bit hit with everyone we have decided to put our resources into applying similar integration for Plex. Currently we are in alpha for the driver but i just wanted to show you guys what it can do. Watch the video for a demo. Only thing i did not show in the demo is the ability to do a global search across all media types. This driver should in theory work with all Plex clients including Roku's. At this stage we have only been doing development testing on the Plex Home Theater platform. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Bzmu9XWAKY

(Send powerpoint/webpage/word document/PDF) * Combine with chowmain event logger to note down what you’ve watched on youtube on the chromecast and other apps that output titles. Frequently Asked Questions Why should i use this driver when i'm using my phone or tablet anyway? * The driver auto detects when the chromecast starts an application and switches the room on within Control4. As Control4 knows about it you can easily switch sources out of it. The alternative method is to add a fake driver in Control4 in which can you need to manually switch. * Playback control on certain applications (YouTube, Plex, Redbull TV and Viki) enables you to utilise the SR-250 remote control whilst watching your movie or tv show. Much more elegant than using your tablet or phone. Are there any other cool things we can do with these drivers? * The chromecast is perfect for a boardroom presentations. Cast your desktop to the chromecast using chrome browser and have the projector turn on, screen lower, curtains close and lights turn off. Disconnect off chromecast and the projector turns off, screen raises, curtains open and the lights turn back on. This has been tested on the windows and OSX builds of chrome with success. 12. Chowmain - Plex Home Theater Driver Plex Home Theater is a software based media player that can be installed on Mac and Windows based operating systems. Plex offers a beautiful simple interface that enriches your playback experience. The Chowmain Plex Home Theater driver enables us to integrate the Plex Home Theater software into the Control4 home automation system with seamless control and feedback. Features * IP based communications * Transport controls * Movie integration into Control4’s Navigator (NOTE - Currently only works for windows due to bug in osx version). * Audio End-Point assignment for line level volume up/down/mute functionality * Video End-Point assignment * 2 way feedback via the JSON API for play, pause, stop, movie started/finished, screen saver active/deactive * Assignable buttons for non intuitive buttons * Wake-on Lan functionality * Power off options * Ability to send custom messages to Plex Home Theater via Plex Notification (similar to Control4 Announcements via Navigator). Combine this driver with the Plex Media Server driver to add fully automated movie import capabilities. Frequently Asked Questions Can you give us some examples of how we could use this driver? * One of my pet hates is to be watching a movie and have navigator pop up and tell me that someone is at my front door or perhaps i have a new email or something. This driver provides the ability to send Plex announcements. Like a Control4 Announcement this will pop up a custom message however in this case it will not interrupt the current Plex activity. It will just pop up in the bottom right hand corner for a few seconds and then hide away. * This driver provides two way feedback on what you media you're consuming and what the state of the media player is. It will tell you when the movie is playing, paused, stopped or if it is a movie, episode, song or unknown media type. This information is useful for customising your lighting and environment to suit your customer's requirements. Are there any other cool things we can do with this driver? *By using the media type feedback and the play event you can essentially turn on your AV system to either your audio or video end points. This means for example you can utilise airplay to play a song on your iphone and it will turn on your receiver or if you play a youtube video on your iphone you can turn your receiver and tv on. You can even use 3rd party Plex Apps to turn it on. *One of my bad habits i have is that i pause a movie and walk off or perhaps i fall asleep in whilst watching a movie. In the past it was hard to track when this happens however now with the OnScreensaverActive event we know exactly when this happens. With some conditional logic (if source == plex) then we can essentially turn off our whole AV system when we are not using it to save power or prevent image burn in. What hardware will this work on? This will work for both the windows and osx versions of Plex Home Theater. It may work with the unofficial builds of Plex Home Theater but it is untested and unsupported. Note that due to a bug in Plex Home Theater OSX direct movie selection from Navigator will not work. It has been reported to Plex for resolution. How do I find out more information about the driver? 13. ' Chowmain - Plex Media Server Driver Control4’s movie management system was designed to handle DVD changers and as such only works well with DVD folder type structures. Unfortunately the majority of today’s video containers are not DVD folders and as such cannot be cataloged easily with Control4. This makes creating and managing a Control4 movie library tedious and time consuming task . As such Chowmain has made movie management so much simpler with the Plex Media Server solution. Plex Media Server is software designed to catalog and distribute your movies and music. The software can be installed on windows, linux, mac osx and even on specific NAS drives. The Chowmain Plex Media Server driver parses the Plex Media Server database for a list of its movies and grabs the meta data and cover art for all of the movies it finds. It then inserts it into the Control4 network file storage driver as if the driver scanned it itself. As such the driver will work with any media player that supports movie playback from Control4’s navigator interface. This includes the Control4 media player, network EVA8000/8000, dune media players and more. Features * Integration with any Plex Media Server * Ability to sort out which files go with the network file storage driver set up. * Movie Cover Art Injection * Movie Meta Data Injection Frequently Asked Questions Can you give us some examples of how we could use this driver? * This driver is useful for indexing extremely large movie libraries. The awesome part of this driver is that it will work with any media player that is compatible with Control4's movie management system. This includes the netgear EVA8000/9000/9150, DuneHD, Popbox, XBMC, Plex and much more. It is not tied into the media player! Are there any other cool things we can do with this driver? *Since Extra Vegetables provides a free trial licence for every customer you can essentially use this driver to index your clients movie collection on every job without purchasing a licence. After the trial period elapses its your choice if you want to update the library manually or purchase a licence to have it done automatically. We encourage you to do this. *This driver works with Plex Media Server on any platform. Though it will work on the windows and osx releases of the software the real strength lies in the versions that are available on NAS drives. Popular NAS drives supported include Synology, QNAP, Netgear and more. As such you only need a media player and a NAS drive to have a fully automated movie system. What hardware will this work on? Plex Media Server is available for Windows, Mac OSX and various NAS drives. Please see the Plex website for more information. How do I find out more information about the driver? 14. So, living in a 2 bed apartment with only one TV (for now) clearly Video Distribution is not high on my list of tasks. But I have been thinking about this as I read other threads, especially as I have been looking at the new Tivo Roamios and just got the Roku3 as an upgrade to my XD|S on a black friday $80 special. So my question to the brain trust is - is the distribution of video moving back to the endpoint? Seems to me that for much less than the cost of a decent matrix you can throw a Tivo Mini and a Roku 3/Apple TV/PopboxV8 behind each TV and have the sources locally. And depending on your cable provider and what you really need at that TV you could even reduce that further. The TimeWarner now has a Roku app that works on the Roku 3 and could pretty much mean that I could have a second TV with a Roku 3 behind it and get live TV, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon streaming etc, then I can add the Plex app to stream from my NAS drive so all I am missing at this second TV is the ability to watch a BluRay/DVD (but it takes minutes to rip it), and i know many keep the DVD player nearer the screen for ease of use anyway. Single Device - Tivo Mini gets you - Live TV, DVR access, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon (not Prime) Roku3 gets you - Live TV (TWC and some others), Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Plex And these devices are so small that they can all hang off the back of the TV or be put somewhere almost invisible at the endpoint so the visual clutter / furniture becomes less of a problem. At most my apartment will end up with 3 TVs in time as the kids get older. Looking forward, this is how I see planning that media expansion.
