Door bell detection

Hi all,

I want to integrate my door bell in c4.

I ran a 4 wire cable to the door bell transformer when i built my house.

I wany to know the best way to wire it into my hc300?

I know that when i press the doorbell, i get 30 v ac. Would that be too much voltage into the 12v input of the hc300 contact?

Otherwise i can run the 30vac to an external spare relay that i have and use a contact closure from there to feed the hc300 ?

Any other suggestions ?

1) Run a 2 wire from your controller contact to the doorbell button and wire the contact through the button.

2) run the 24v wire from the transformer, through the relay on your controller, to the bell and then back to the transformer.

3) program the relay to quickly close then open again when the contact is triggered.

NOTE: make sure you use a button with NO light.

Enjoy

Get the ELK doorbell sensor and like life easier. How to connect it is incredibly simple and also well documented. You can use a lighted doorbell and it works flawlessly.

My doorbell has a light inside it.

I have access to the transformer and using a dvm i read 29vac when i press the doorbell.

If i feed the 29vac to the coil of a relay and the use a contact of that relay into the hc300.... Wouldnt that do the job ?

Ill have a quick look at the elk but if i can do it with my existing inventory....even better :)

Thanks guys

So Dan-- does the ELK give you little or not lag on the doorbell announcement?  Also, what's the setup?  Doorbell to ELK, ELK out straight into the controller contact 12V & Signal?

Thanks as my doorbell has about a 3 sec lag using an HC800 controller with the doorbell straight into it.

The ELK doorbell kit allows Control4 to get feedback from the doorbell yet keep the existing doorbell wired to it.  This allows for you to fire off an email, notificaiton or start recording on your DVR/NVR.

This will not make the Control4 announcement agent any quicker.  The issue is not the doorbell feedback itself but the announcement agent itself.  You will find that announcement execution takes a few seconds even on the quickest of controllers.
