If they're your friends, will you tell them to do a little work on their website to make it easier to read?  A flat wall of text is BRUTAL.  I really want to read what's at that link but don't think I can handle it!

For the cost of a 6:4 with this, I can get a Snap A/V 8:8 with built in HDBaseT and 8 x HDBaseT receivers and have some money left over. It better be pretty damn phenomenal, because the Snap unit works great, and has more inputs/outputs.

Nice product, but:

1.  What happens if Video-Storm goes out of business?  I assume none of these are interoperable and no other company makes replacements.

2.  Is it truly saving money?  I can buy a complete HDBaset 8x8 solution for $3000 and it doesn't involve nearly the amount of programming this unit requires.

I luvvvvvvv XBMC.. XBMC in every room right? With the one source of XBMC  to maintain?? is that right? If so there is one huge feature right there....

Where is the best YouTube or something that explains it or demo's how it all comes together?

The one on the website is a fraction limited..

Cheers...

Well that is friggen awesome.. Unreal...

Please keep us posted how your install goes..

Maybe a review??

Looks a *very* impressive concept..

I knew I should have bought bitcoins 12 months ago.../ :)

Wap - products nearly identical to this have existed for a long time in "Just Add Power", and when you boil it right down - it's a matrix switch.  Those have been around a long time too.

I'm concerned about buying such an expensive product from such a small company, that seems to have very limited resources. It's all proprietary....

We've been using their component matrix switches for years and they are great.  They are def a small company which has its drawbacks.  Also has it's perks too though.  I can call the owner of the company who developed this stuff for tech support.  Probably the most knowledgeable tech support person i've ever talked to.  I've got my concerns about this stuff, but it isn't your traditional "matrix switch".  It eliminates HDMI from the equation for all but 1 foot at your source and display, which sounds like a great thing to me with all of the issues HDMI creates.

Comparing apples and oranges really.

It will all depend on the product quality relative to it's price. Snap's stuff 'work great' is...a slight overstatement. Personal experience installing a lot of them is that they 'work OK'. We'll find out where this stuff will end up.

1 What happens with ANY company's products when it goes out of business? VideoStorm may not be a big player in scale, but they've been around for a long time (in terms of this industry).

2 If you want to save money get all your knock-offs from China. I'm no 'don't buy out of China' hardliner by any means, but price in the end is (should be?) but one part of your consideration. This product may well fill a desire in the market, has it's own (potential) advantages - time will tell really.

? I'd say it's like 2G with added features, at what should be a compelling price indeed.

Videostorm has scaling though, and the 1G was the only JAP with that. That's what I was thinking of. And while it's a nice feature to have, I can't say that I've ever really needed it, most displays we deal with are 1080 peas.

^ I'll wait to see what Matt Stafford from avleadtech lthinks about his first couple of installs... I trust that guy... from previous dealer comments around here.... I think he has his head screwed very firmly on where all this tech is going...Pulling multiple video sources into the one frame/GUI and controlling it via an IP driver without having to go HDMI over very long runs is likely to suit my screw ball multiple media content situation (Australia) .... and house. The integration of XBMC is icing on the cake... just depends how it is all implemented and what the future holds for ongoing support of this integration....and whether it will likely break... And how much the whole setup is dependant on XBMC, for my money...

That's always been the trouble with XBMC....

Firmware upgrades>driver no longer works>guy that writes the software moves employers>employers then no longer support upgrades> someone rips off the driver>nobody makes any money>Control4 doesn't care about supporting the driver> some new awesome feature appears in XBMC that is not supported by driver>guys that knows how to rewrite driver no longer there..... etc etc...

^ same thing has just happened with Sonos (Global search).. perfect example why I keep arguing till the cows come home the mothership needs to get active in this media and driver support space.. And *really* throw some R&D money at this aspect of Control4.....

I just wish Sonos would do video distribution, and sign up every bit of content: then it would be game over..

But like that is never going to happen..

So I'll wait see what Matt thinks :)

Dan could you or someone elaborate how it boils down to be "just a Matrix switch"...

Do you see it as a kind of hybrid Matrix?

I can't seem to get my head around how it actually works.. it looks to me kind of like a Matrix<>Video via IP hybrid(with XBMC controlling this)... but seriously I have no idea.. like what are those IR inputs doing on the end point devices...? I just don't get this product.. its seems a mixture of both philosophy's..

Who said anything about China?  I didn't say that my setup is from China?  Additionally, doesn't video-storm use raspberry pi's and aren't some of those produced in China?
