Emailing to IPhone

Recommended Posts

Not directly C4 related, but I'm hoping some of you have a neat way to acheive what I want.

I have C4 send me emails when my DSC alarm is armed/disarmed, Alarm triggered, Smoke detector triggered etc...

These emails simply come to my wifes, and my own iphone.

My phone simply plays the standard tone to tell me there is a new email.....

What I want is for my phone to determine if that email is 'important', and if so, ignore volume setting and scream a ringtone of my choice at full volume.

Cheers.

You should get push notifications, this can be done through the push notify driver ( it can be purchased by your dealer on EV), then you can assign different tones to push messages labeled important, or normal within the prowl app

Thanks, that sounds good, but I fail to see what the prowl app and push notify driver gives me that I don't already have with standard email.

I already have this gmail account push to my phone for instant emails.

I can also set a ring tone and notification options per email account.

Does Prowl just use existing iphone notifications and banners, just as my current email does?

Or setup a special email account for the house and have those notifications more alarming.

This is what I have done currently -

I have all general email going to a gmail account.

I have all alarm triggered type emails going to a new outlook.com account (only chose outlook because gmail has removed the sync to allow push with newly set up accounts)

I have my phone use a different ringtone for the outlook account.

However if the phone has the volume down or is do not disturb mode, I would like my alarm triggered emails to still use full volume..... ? I suppose Apple has this locked down too much for any 'override' ???

You could put the email account into VIP mode and have a special ringtone for the VIP accounts.

Bill

Thanks Bill, But I want to know it is an emergency - I want to be continually alerted and preferably have the current volume ignored and the ringtone (alarm) sound on full volume.

I want to know right away if my smoke detector or burglar alarm is triggered, even if my phone is in dnd mode.

PushNotify does all of that. Priority can be assigned per message and you can set different alerts (from nothing to full alarm) on your phone. Messages can be pushed out to multiple phones or just a single phone.

Thanks for getting me to take a second look. Alan, this is what you and I have been discussing. Thank you!

No problems. It'll be released early in the week. Will post an announcement then.
