istreich
I have a pair of ceiling speakers in my family room that are currently used only to listen to music via the whole house C4 16 channel matrix switcher and fed by multichannel amps. I would also would like to use this pair of speakers to watch 5.1/7.1 movies when using my Marantz AV receiver. I need a "switch" that could be controled by my C4 processor that would switch the source back and forth between the AV receiver (for movies/TV) and the C4 matrix switch/multi channel amp when listening to music. In simpler terms: two sources, one pair of speakers. It looks like the Niles SPK-1 may be doing this but I don't know if it can be controlled. There are other systems I have come across but they require physically pushing a button. Thanks for your suggestions.
lippavisual
It uses a 12 volt trigger to switch. I don't remember the model number, but they used to have one that was auto-sensing for line-level sources.

Cyknight
Could also use relays on a controller - you'd need 4 total though.

earo
Try the Niles ABS-1. I use this to switch speakers between rears on my Marantz and a Sonos Zone Amp. No programming necessary. Works great. I have it set to override the Sonos as soon as it detects a signal from the Marantz. http://www.nilesaudio.com/product.php?prodID=ABS-1&recordID=Automated%20Switching%20Systems&categoryID=Switching%20Systems&catcdID=&prdcdID=FG00271Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

istreich
I ended up buying a Niles SPK-1 which is working fine. It is "controlled" via the AC out of my Marantz receiver. The problem is that I would like to upgrade my receiver to a newer model. Unfortunately most receivers including those I am looking at in the Denon and Marantz do not include anymore a AC outlet to provide the switched current needed. Is there a way to provide the 12V DC signal, 100mA that the Niles unit required to switch to the right speakers. Could I use a relay connection of my C4 HC800 to do this? It needs to be a continuous signal and not just a pulse. Suggestions are welcome. By default, my speakers used are for whole house audio (from C4 matrix) but I am switching them to HT receiver when watching TV. Again, Niles SPK-1 does this perfectly currently but I am loosing the power out of the receiver when I upgrade to newer unit. Thanks for your help and suggestions. Cyknight
Most receives still have a 12v trigger out - or yes you could use a controller relay a 12v powersupply (or steal 12v off of a controller contact if available) and programming.
