zaphod
Anyone else come across an HC-300 power supply that appears to have suffered from capacitor plague? I bought an HC-300 on eBay that was DOA. But I was able to ascertain that the problem was with the power supply and it works fine with a new power supply installed. The bad power supply was made by Dongah, and is dated 2008-06-30. The reason that I suspect capacitor plague is that a couple of the electrolytic capacitors on the PS are bulged out at the top. SY3
I've had 4 go bad on me over the last 2 years. I've replaced all of them myself. I've kept a few spare HC300 units but since I don't need them anymore, I'll probably sell them soon.
zaphod
Did you notice bulging or leaking electrolytic capacitors?
SY3
That's the strange thing - not on any of them but sure enough it was the power supply.

SY3
Yep. All of mine were flat and looked just like the power supply I replaced them with.
RyanE
Caps can dry up and fail even if they don't bulge. They can also take out other components when they fail, so that even replacing the caps won't necessarily fix the issue. Speaking of caps, I replaced 2 caps on my webserver's motherboard 2 weeks ago. Fixed the problem. RyanE
