Homebridge Driver for HomeKit Support?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just found this post and hope the questions haven’t  been asked before.

does this driver allow me to control everything currently being controlled by HomeKit? Without the addition of other drivers? Right now I’m using Caseta lights, August door locks and MyQ garage doors. Everything works perfectly on HomeKit but I know the devices don’t natively work with C4. I’m just starting with C4 and haven’t installed any of it yet.

if I add a device to HomeKit (additional light switch, or whatever), will it work with C4 right away or is more work required?

can I install this driver myself or would my dealer need to do it?

thank you

Unfortunately it only works in the other direction - it only lets you use HomeKit to control C4 devices, not the other way around.  You also need a Homebridge hub - you can use your own Rasb Pi or buy one from Joshua with everything preinstalled.

None for you today but if you get C4 hardware it is a way to control C4 hardware from HomeKit.  I think you can even control non-C4 stuff that is controlled by C4 that doesn't work with HomeKit as well.  For example I have a Hue V1 hub which doesn't work with HomeKit - you need V2.  But with Homebridge I can no control those lights in HomeKit.

I have dozens of C4 light dimmers and switches that I can now control with HomeKit.

I just noticed that on my Homebridge Rpi I have 11 processes of apache2 running.  Does that make sense?  I don't think I use my Homebridge Pi for anything else so there shouldn't be anything else causing apache2 to run.

I haven’t really looked all that closely at this, but it’s possible Apache needs several processes to run. It’s also possible the node stuff under the hood is using Apache dependencies. I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Any progress on the amazon dash buttons?

Not yet... but still very much on my to-do list.  Lots of valid excuses, but not really relevant to the "not getting it done" bit.  I bought 10 of the buttons and have them working here, so I just need to "productize" the configuration and install process so it's the same ease-of-use as my other stuff, and then it should be ready to go.  Hoping to get to that soon-ish.

Great! My dealer is installing the Homebridge this week, I'm looking forward to the buttons!

I'm still around.  Things have been really hectic in my day job and something happened to this forum's "facebook login" option which disabled my ability to login to the forums from my phone for a while.  I actually just got back from Amsterdam on a business trip, and will be headed to Budapest in a few weeks.  Fun times.

I'm still developing the driver when it needs it, but all in all things have been very stable.  I posted an update to the homebridge plugin a week or two ago to fix some issues with thermostat support.  Things are still moving along, just slower than I'd like because business is so good in the "real world".  I love this product and it powers my whole home, so don't be worried about it going away.  :)

I am unable to update Homebridge from the web page UI.  I was able to upgrade the C4 Plugin to the latest version, but I have tried three times to upgrade Homebridge by clicking the button and nothing has happened.  I am currently using 0.4.38 and the latest is 0.4.45.

Hi Josh,

I sent you a couple of e-mails recently to <sup.varietassoftware.com@gmail.com>, we moved our showroom to a new controller. Did they get through?

Ah. See. That’s what you get for shortcutting. Main main email is josh@varietassoftware.com or support@varietassoftware.com. The gmail address was forwarded for a while, and is now invalid.

Does the update fix the recent issues where errant status is reported?

He’s talking about an update to homebridge, not my plugin. I don’t track what all they change/fix as it’s not my project.

I’m currently working on trying to recreate the errant status bug and fix it. I have a software change in my local environment that may help. I bit the bullet and updated to 3.10.5 last week to try and recreate the conditions involved, and I’ve altered my plugin code a bit to try and handle the condition, and log it, but I haven’t seen it crop up yet. Could mean that I fixed it. Could mean that I’m not observing the condition for some reason.
