Cut us some slack. And give us some "how to's"

Recommended Posts

The real issue is Control4 director is running a lot of critical home infrastructure now. And there is zero available information on how best to run it, what road is suitable (if you want to use that analogy) for the actual people who OWN the product.

Why are you asking for setup guides? There's nothing to setup? If the dealers done their job correctly everything should be up and running.

You don't need information on "How best to run it." If it's working then you should assume it is already running at its best. If you want to alter or add to your network and your unsure of if it will effect the C4 Installation then phone your dealer and ask? I honestly don't see the issue here... are you scared of your dealer?

I think you need to learn to accept that if you have a IP based home automation system, it will "take up" a portion of your network infrastructure whether you like it or not. This portion is a specialist portion, and so, if you have issues with it then you contact a specialist. Rather then asking for impossibly specific magic documents relating to your bespoke install. The content available to dealers on the knowledge base is incredibly generalised (as it has to be) and would by no means help you "set up" whatever it is your trying to "set up."

I honestly just think you're ranting for the sake of it now.

The real issue is that heat, hot and cold water and electricity run a lot of critical home infrastructure and there is zero information on how best to run it.

Grid, solar, wind, generator.

Gas, oil, electric, geothermal.

Steam, community steam, underfloor, radiators electric storage

Well, tanker, watermain. Tank, tankless.

If only this was all in one paper.

Do car manufactures release documentation for end users on how to carry out service as you'd expect in a garage?

Actually, yes... The manufactures service manuals are readily available for anyone to purchase

1) Useless as pointed out in relevant thread, especially as your intended backup

2) As part of a rant on a failure of your network caused by a Sony TV and the need for Control4 to somehow prevent as they are somehow responsible

3) What did you contribute as an option there? Say Control4 should integrate Spotify Connect as that will solve everything?

4) Sure, I'll give you that one. Though half of it is about hating Sonos and C4 supposedly being the one to 'just fix it'

5) Which was primarily a ten times repeated request for someone else to solve an issue

6) Solving what, how, in what matter, to be done by whom - not to mention the usual rant about copy protection, it's laws and how C4 is supposed to take responsibility and make all the world remove all forms of copy protection.

Wap, sorry man but lately you've been spamming hate, rants, nonsensical reasoning and repetitive arguments with no basis. And now you're feeling butt-hurt that not everyone is cheering 'Let's make Control4 Great Again'. Let me guess - next chant is 'Lock Cyknight up!'.

Bah. Come grab me by the ....

Yep. Heads in the sand chaps. Bully me off the forum again for all I care, Why bother giving any feedback or positive suggestions to improve things around here? It's all just dandy and everyone's system is perfect. Pigs do fly... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm not bullying, I'm just pointing out the fact that you keep saying "you're outta here", and then you never leave.

I don't necessarily *want* you to leave, your posts certainly bring a different side of things, I just don't agree with your assessments and bombast in making those assessments.

Rage quit if you want, but to rage quit, you actually have to *quit*.

^ Wait... it's just me with network problems...

And it's only me who thinks additional help outside the Control4 universe might be needed and a good idea??.

I *doubt* you're the only one with network problems, but I've had none, and I've read *absolutely nothing* from Control4 about how to setup a network.

There is this thing called "The Internet".  It likely has all the info you would ever need about configuring a network.

FWIW, Control 4 doesn't have any secret settings or magic network formulas. They basically tell you having a solid network is a good idea. It's up to each dealer to create a solid network, or in many cases set up a system on the owner's existing network. Their is no reason you cant have complete control over your own network. If your network is set up by your dealer to also use with other devices, WAPs, computers, printers, etc.., then you're buying that network from your dealer, not control 4, so any issues with that have to be addressed by whoever set that up. Most of the time they're installed together, so i think that kind of blurs the lines.

I completely understand the frustration, but network problems have to be addressed by whoever created the network. If you have specific network questions, this forum is a great resource for that.

Look by the very fact that we are on this forum, that makes us not your average C4 user, as someone so elegantly pointed out to me in the Sonos thread. For many of us, that means we are more than capable of running our own network infrastructure. For some, such as myself, we have very complicated home networks. For example, I have a fully virtualized infrastructure with SANs, nextgen firewall, IP KVMs, cellular out-of-band management, etc. I wouldn't let my C4 dealer near any of that with a ten foot pole because basically they are not qualified to touch it. Moreover, as has been documented many times before on these forums, many of our C4 dealers are basically incompetent (not mine in particular, but its a problem). That is basically the reason why this forum exists in the first place--so C4 customers can stay informed of the latest tech.

Now, while I understand that C4 probably doesn't have any specialized network requirements. I don't think it is ridiculous to have some examples. I would love to hear about experiences with VLANS and multicast issues. It is also not productive to say: "call your dealer" on this forum. You know that is just going to set off fireworks. If call your dealer were the real answer, most of us wouldn't be here in the first place.

Just my 2 cents.

Wap, understand that it's nothing personal - but the very reactions you're seeing should tell you that what you've been (mostly) posting recently is just SO far fetched it's laughable.

Now, either you're laughing your ass off right now because we all thought you were being serious and and 'fell for it' - or you really need to sit down and examine the phrase 'I'm not crazy, the rest of the world is' and how it applies to you, and what that phrase actually means.

Hope you're laughing yourself hoarse.
