rumpfedrunyon
I just bought a home with Control4. Seller did not leave details of the system log in etc and in house screens not working. Cannot log into the app without system details. Seller left details of dealer who set them up but no response as yet and yelp etc indicates they are totally unresponsive to people not looking for new installs. Got new modem and set top box equipment from Comcast and attempted to just replace existing Comcast modem (which seller curiously left) with new one but modem is not able to connect. Spent 4hrs on phone with Comcast Saturday and they are sending a tech in 5 days. System appeared to be working prior to departure of sellers so hoping no substantive problems involved. Wondering if Comcast will be able to help or do I need to get a remote dealer? Advice very warmly received. If you are a remote dealer please PM me with an offer. Thanks in advance for help. sonic30101
welcome to the forum, unfortunately comcast will likely be little to no help at all. The previous owner more than likely had their own router if they left a stand alone modem. And if you go with a comcast modem/router combo the IP address scheme will be different and require a dealer to be on site to redo the static addresses, then a remote dealer may be able to help out. Not necessarily the one that did the initial install mind you so shop around for a good local dealer for on site stuff

To be more precise the Comcast modem is at the intake from the street, but there are also additional routers in place both with the rest of the mass of C4 equipment at that junction and at another point in the house. So I believe that the seller did not take their router with them. Does that make a difference?
sonic30101
Hard to say really without more info. Hopefully you have the username and password to get into the settings of the router itself without having to factory reset it. As far as the modem goes comcast will test their lines and hopefully get things upsteam sorted but the second they see a 3rd party router and C4 gear it is out of their wheelhouse and they wont be any help. Once that is up and running best case scenario is the in wall touch panels will work and you can link up with a remote programmer and let them know the info in the setting page and maybe get the ball rolling on getting the system up and working
dcovach
There's lots of factors to consider. A list of what equipment left behind would be a good indicator as to whether you even want to invest time and money into it. Find whatever model numbers you can. You may only need a primary controller upgrade, or just good networking equipment properly set up before a dealer (possibly remotely) configures the c4 equipment to work with the network.
