Alarm Integration

evil0ne

Question

Hi all, I just purchased a new home and I am taking this as an opportunity to venture further into home automation.  My previous home relied on Alarm.com and Harmony remotes but the new home is pre-wired for whole home audio and comes with a pool equipped with Pentair ScreenLogic so I'd like to do something a bit more integrated.  I have a coworker that has highly recommended Control4 and I think I have most of it figured out but I was hoping someone could help me understand the best way to integrate an alarm system.

I would like to keep a centrally monitored alarm that would work with the MyQ garage door and two Kwikset Z-Wave 914's that I removed from the old home.  I have read that the DSC Neo is one of the go to systems so I guess my question is whether or not that Alarm.com can manage the Garage door and door locks while still allowing Control4 to monitor/set alarm states?

Thanks in advance!

Why do you want to keep Alarm.com for garage control? Why not just use C4 for that as well so its all in one place/app?  C4 is a lot more powerful and versatile.  I switched from Alarm.com to C4 with the exact setup you ask about and have never missed anything the former system offered.

I need a centrally monitored alarm for my insurance and Alarm.com is relatively cheap unless I'm missing another alternative.  I also only care about "controlling" my garage door remotely and the Alarm.com integration of MyQ is free and seamless unlike what I'm seeing for C4.

That is correct.  For anyone else that inherits a prewired home with a Honeywell Vista system what I did was:

  • Remove ADT Pulse Hub and Communicator
  • Install Tuxedo Touch panel
  • Install iGSMV4G Communicator
  • Install 4232CBM

Month to Month monitoring will be done through AlarmGrid/GeoArm that also gives access to the Total Connect application and will integrate with C4.

as long as adt uses the normal panel and will work with the ip module i think it is that you need to get control4 to connect to it you should be good to go.

why the tuxedo touch panel? I have a Vista 20p integrated with Control4 with just the 4232CBM.

For me it was the way I could incorporate the Z-Wave locks I already owned.  You are correct, not a required piece but it looks a lot better on the wall too.

can you explain what you mean by incorporate the z-wave locks?  After reading this I thought I could integrate them into C4 using a tuxedo but others are saying thats not possible... If you're able to integrate with control4 using tuxedo or even program off z wave items can you explain how you did that?

It's not really "integrated" but it works for me. The ADC-SEM210-VT-VZ includes a Z-Wave module that connects to my Kwikset locks I already owned. I setup the automation of the locks within Alarm.com not C4. When the panel is armed, the locks lock, etc...That can be triggered by C4 through the HSIM. I don't have other crazy automations in the house but I would think you could setup whatever triggers you want in that respect. As an example, when Garage lock disarms the system, turn on lights and play music. The lock communicates over Z-Wave to disarm the system, the HSIM sees the state change and then would do whatever you want it to do. Not as elegant as I think you were hoping for but it works and means I didn't have to buy a bunch of new overpriced locks.
