Best way to control Plex on Nvidia Shield??

Recommended Posts

I'm considering a shield to replace my AppleTV for streaming Plex.

What's the latest as far as drivers to control the Nvidia menu from my C4 remote?

thanks.

I'm fond of Chowmain's Driver with Video Storms IRUSB. I have 4 Nvidia Shields outfitted in this manner.

OK...so IRUSB sounds like the solution for controlling the Nvidia.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it your not intigrating Plex into the C4 ecosystem and only using the remote to control the Nvidia menu, then Chowmain's driver isn't needed???

thanks.

Plex is easier to use and has way better live TV and dvr support. And live TV guides. Etc. Easy remote access.

All things Missing from Kodi ( it hasn't been xbmc in years)

Nonsense.

I live TV, DVR, live TV guides straight into Kodi from a VBox.

Been doing it for years

And I do it for free

Ok. That doesn't mean it's the same everywhere in the world.

What is a v box?

Plex has a successful business so it can't be nonsense. But it can be something you don't need

But sure.

Being free.. you get “breaks.”

Like the recent VBox PVR gateway upgrading to Kodi Lieca 18....

But heck we have got breaks all the time with Control4 and we pay for that - look what happened with Sonos just sayin...

V box converts a free to air signal and broadcasts it on your network

So from what I understand the Shield has good support for Kodi.  If that's true then I would suggest loading Kodi and then install the PlexKodiConnect addon.  There are plenty of Kodi drivers for C4 to control it.  The PlexKodiConnect addon gives you the best of both worlds.  Plex is amazing at maintaining the database and maintaining/updating media metadata.  It's a perfect backend server for media.  Kodi has a better frontend and user interface.  I personally prefer the Kodi interface over Plex.

If you have multiple Kodi boxes and they're all using the PlexKodiConnect addon to pull from the same Plex server then all of your media remains synced.  It's become a very nice media ecosystem for me.
