Okay, so with one of the 1.8 releases recently Control4 included a serial driver to integrate the Bryan Evolution/Carrier Infinity Zone System which I have been waiting a long time for. We even posted about it on the blog: http://c4central.com/2009/11/15/carrier … -control4/
Where in the hell can I buy the SAM that is needed? I've asked my dealer several times and haven't received response which leads me to believe he can't find one, my HVAC guy can't find one, have any of the dealers here used one?
To further complicate things they have a WiFi version, ethernet version, and an RS-232 version which all appear to have the same model number. If anyone has the correct unit (or has access to the correct unit) please post the information here or email me. I know there are other forum members after this as well, so posting here may get you even more sales.
Thanks, this thing is driving me crazy...no product should be this hard to purchase.

My dealer didn't know what it was and I also have not heard back from him since a month ago when I asked!

I haven't had much luck sourcing one online in the past. Might call Carrier's sales number.

They sell direct to consumer?

I found the product for sale here: http://mybayareaservices.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=383
The problem is verifying whether or not it is the RS-232 model, WiFi model, or ethernet model. They all have the same model number.

The other confusing thing is it appears that comes with the thermostat and everything?
Why is this so cryptic?

It looks like this is the phone number for Bryant ( 1-800-428-4326 ), I may call them tomorrow.
Can one of the dealers contact Control4 and get the model number off the unit they used to make the driver? Can they tell us where THEY got the unit?
This is crazy....

That's an Ethernet version. Isn't the driver control4 wrote a serial driver over RS-232?
This is what I'm saying, there is no good information on this thing.
Alan, do you know what I need to buy to make this work? Do you know where I can buy it?
Thanks...

From what I can tell, the RS-232 port is on both the ethernet and wireless versions.
I found that part numbers had changed. http://hvac-talk.com/vbb/showthread.php … ost5052352
Then found this - http://www.xpedio.carrier.com/idc/group … t-01si.pdf
That's as far as I've made it...

Well, these escapades make me want to rip this system out and get something with better support.
I am currently on the phone with Bryant, and according to them what I am asking about doesn't exist, and they have no way to reference anything by part number.
Then the lady asked me why I am trying to "fix my furnace" by myself and not using an authorized technician. When I finally made her understand I was trying to buy something but needed confirmation on what I was going to order, she said she needs to tranfser me to the remote access department and wants the serial number off my remote access module - the one that I am trying to buy.
I have never had such a hard time buying something...Control4 created the driver "due to dealer demand" which would lead me to believe there is someone somewhere that has installed this thing. Can one of you dealers do me a favor and ask this question on the dealer forums?

Okay guys, this is the part number we need: SYSTXBBSAM01. They are emailing me a copy of the circuit board showing all the connections right now.
Now, we just need to find somebody that has one for sale. If anyone is able to track one down let me know, I'll do the same.

Okay guys...I found a local distributor that has three of these things in stock. They are priced right at $800, but I can get the price down to about $750 if I buy two, and $725 if I buy three.
Is anyone else interested in one of these?

Did you get a copy of the circuit board diagram? From what I can find, it looks like it connects to the main panel via the A, B and C connections, the same connections the thermostats use, which should be simple enough. Is the 24V transformer included?
I'm very interested.

No, the knucklehead must have spelled my email address wrong or something because it never showed up.
He did confirm the part number to buy was SYSTXBBSAM01, and that includes an RS-232 port.
I assume it will come with installation documentation, but I think it is probably pretty straightforward.
I just found this: http://www.xpedio.carrier.com/idc/group … 574-25.pdf
I am on the phone right now trying to determine whether that includes the 24V transformer or not.

Great. I assume there had to be some sort of demand for this integration for Control4 to write a driver. Can any dealers chime in with implementation results?

This is what surprises me. People at Control4 told me there was demand for this product, and that is why they finally decided to write a driver. I know that on the dealer forums there is chatter about this (at least that's what I heard from C4). I wish someone would share a little information about it.

This is interesting....it looks like the SYSTXBBSAM01 comes with a complete zone board and thermostat (the big main one). I have someone right now looking into if JUST the System Access Module is available for purchase by itself.
Online
That would certainly help reduce the price.

I would certainly think so. I would think it has to be available stand alone simply for damage/warranty repair purposes. I do wonder if the SAM is built into the zone board and is simply not an add on. Hopefully it is just an add on, and is available for a more attractive price.

Damn...the guy was wrong...it doesn't have any of that stuff and is just the System Access Module.

Dan
Is the SYSTXBBSAM01 everything needed to connect?
What type os system do you have? I was told by my HVAC guy that the C4 thermostat will not work with the geothermal system.
This is what he said:
"this thermostat doesn’t support multi-stage heat pumps. It uses a 5-wire configuration while your current system uses 8-wire."
Offline
The SYSTXBBSAM01 is a module that provides the Bryant Evolution/Carrier Infinity Zone System with an RS-232 port so it can communicate with Control4. You need one of the zone systems already, this is just the module that will provide communication between the two systems.

I would love to have my Carrier Infinity / geothermal system integrated with Control4... but at the moment, not for $700+...
For those who note that they cannot use their C4 thermostat with their heat pumps, my understanding is that that's correct: you CANNOT use the C4 thermostat. You would use the Carrier Infinity (or Bryant Evolution) thermostat to control your HVAC system directly; the SAM allows you to connect to a C4 system with a serial cable, and with Control4's driver gain control that way. I don't have any C4 thermostats and don't imagine I will so long as I remain in the current house with my geothermal. ![]()

...I do, however, remain confused by the fact that SYSTXBBSAM01 *appears* to be a regular Infinity/Evolution thermostat... I would have expected a SAM to be some boring little box that gets connected down by the heat pumps / air handlers where the rest of the brains of the system presumably are! Hmmmm...
