Marc_Dovian
Greetings,The Control System Remote that came with my Control4 Home Theater Controller no longer shos any text on its LCD screen. All the buttons on the remote are functioning fine. I replaced the batteries in the remote with a fresh set but there is still no text showing up on the remote. The back light for the LCD comes on and I can blindly change the brightness by clicking on the "display", "enter", and use the "left" and "right" arrow buttons to control the brightness. However, there is still no text. It is as if the contrast was set to zero. I tried blindly adjusting the contrast by clicking on the "display", "down", "enter", and use the "left" and "right" arrow buttons to control the contrast. However, the is still not text on the remote's LCD screen.Questions:(1) Is there any way to soft/hard reset the system remote other than removing/re-installing the batteries (i.e. is there a reset button that needs to be pressed using a paper clip or is there a sequence of buttons to press/hold to reset the remote control)?(2) Would it make sense to upgrade to the newer RCZ-SRC2-B remote control or replace the broken one with a working version 1 model?(3) Are these new version 2 remotes compatible with the original Control4 Home Theater Controllers or only for the new HC-300 Home Theater Controllers?(4) Is the newer RCZ-SRC2-B remote control backward compatible with a HTC that was programmed using Composer Pro 1.2.5 or does it require the HTC to be upgraded to 1.3.2 in order to make use of it.Marc
Hilaldo
My v1 remote did this after my wife dropped it on the tile floor. It still works as it did before, with the exception of the LCD being dead. I ended up purchasing a v2 remote for my Media Controller and it has been working great. Marc_Dovian
Hilaldo,Thanks for responding to my post. Did you have to upgrade your Media Controller to the latest 1.3.2 before being able to use your v2 remote control? Marc
Kirill
Does your remote have black buttons or white buttons ?There was a bad batch of v1 remotes with black buttons - it causes it to lose 99.5% of contrast - if you look really really really hard you can see something on the screen.Don't forget that C4 doubled warranty recently. Marc_Dovian
Kirill,Thanks. The version 1 remote that I'm having problems with does not have any white buttons. If what you say is true, it correlates with the problem that I'm experiencing (i.e. zero contrast on the LCD screen of the system remote control).I'll see if I can get Control4 to create an RMA for this remote control. It has been just a little over a year so it should still be under warranty. The particular system that this remote control is for was programmed using Composer Pro 1.2.5. It has not been updated to the latest 1.3.2 yet. Will the new system remote v2 still work under 1.2.5 (i.e. same driver) or will I have to update the Home Theater Controller to use 1.3.2? I have read the Technical Support Bulletin for 1.3.2 and it seems pretty involved. If it is necessary to upgrade the controller first, I'll have to allocate more time on site for the programmer to work on it. However, if it is not required, it should just be a matter or deleting the old remote in Composer and adding the new remote with its new MAC address. Please correct me if I'm wrong.Marc
RyanE
Whether it'll be covered under warranty depends on the date which it was purchased.i.e. the warranty was doubled, but only for products purchased after a certain date, not for all products sold up to that point.I don't remember what the date was, and it can't hurt to ask, though. The v.2 remotes are much sturdier, the design and manufacturing was improved for the new version.RyanE

HAS
Marc,I would suggest that you contact your Dealer or Installer on this issue. Control4 has a "Trade-in" program for v1 remotes that runs through the end of the year. You can trade in your v1 remote (working or not) toward a v2 remote, pricing is in the hands of your Dealer but, a guide point would be $50 - 100 plus programming. The remote does not need to work to qualify for this program but, the remote will need to be reminicant of a remote (in one peice).I hope this helps,Mark
Marc_Dovian
HAS,I'm in the process with working with my Control4 Dealer to come back on site to add my version 2 remote and delete my version 1 remote from Home Theater Controller. Is it true that the new v2 remote will not work on my Control4 HTC (currently running 1.2.5) unless an update of the controller is done to upgrade it to version 1.3.2?Marc
henniae
The data sheet for the V2 remote says it requires system software version 1.3.1 or later.
