Speaker Point IR

Here's another that has worked for us. You put in a wireless IR extender ($12-$30) and stick the IR emitter from the MC to the face of the extenders transmitter (use the brighter IR outputs on the MC) and then use the extenders receiver to control the satellite box. The reliability of this is going to depend on range and quality of the extender but as "rigged" as it may sound, we've used it reliably on 1 job.

Splitting Cat5, with the right tools, should be a snap! You could probably even use scotchloks that don't require you to cut in to the original cat5's twisted pairs, just open the outer shielding about 2" and clamp it right over the existing wire. Anyway, good luck!

If you really need to do this I suggest you get a 2-3 jack surface box at each end and bulid them wit 2 RJ45 blocks and a RJ11 Block (for the IR in/out) This way standard Cat5/6 standards can remain intact and future generations to come (other dealers, users, etc) have less chance of somking some gear in trhe future.

Just a thought . . .
