drmark12pa
With the awesome help of Neil once again, I have connected one of my garage doors to relay on one of my HC300s.I have another garage door that I would like to do as well but I'm wondering if it's possible to hook up to the same HC300 using the other relay input.Right now the door connected has lead going to NO and COMMON. Could you use the NC and COMMON for an additional garage door relay? I know if I hook them both up to NO and COMMON both doors will open and close together which I don't want. drmark12pa
I tried uploading a photo of the relay connection on the back of the HC300 but it didn't show up
Cyknight
No you can't. NO and NC stand for normally closed and normally open and the relay switches between the two.I could write several lines of text on what all would go wrong if you even tried to do it - just don't. wingzz
No youd have to use a different relay contact
drmark12pa
So it sounds like I have it wired correctly using the NO and the Common since when it's a closed relay the garage door opens/closes...It works great I just wanted to wire the other garage door but looks like I have to make a long cable run to make that happen to connect to another one of my controllers
Cyknight
Yeah current wiring is correct. There's also zigbee relays etc. so if the run is really problematic, you may want to consider one of those.
SMHarman
Yep, an HC300 only has one contact and one relay so one garage door. Instead of a long run to a relay you already own (if it really is that long a run) you could use a card access zigbee relay or similar http://www.cardaccess-inc.com/automation/products/index.php?a=details&i=10 Then the Zigbee WiFi sends commands to that relay. drmark12pa
I'm considering adding another relay running off a different controller in my rack (HC300) to open/close my smaller single stall garage door. Can I use just standard (cheap) speaker wire to make the run? I figure it's going to be at least a 50 foot run from where the controller is to run it up into the attic and down to the garage opener.
Cyknight
Sure, speakerwire would be overkill even, security 'z-wire' using two of the strands is the most common wire to use I think, next to a Cat5 cable.

texas3622
I using the liftmaster garage door opener with the Houselogix driver. It works great. No need to run any wires.
Cyknight
LOL yes that works fine too - wires are a lot cheaper than changing your doors to be MyQ compatible, getting the bridge and the driver though.
alanchow
I have always wired up garage door's to security systems using a zone input for monitoring and relay for control. Call me old fashioned but i like to keep everything in subsystems.
CFUG
Since when is simple "old fashioned"? That's the power of brainwashing...
