Projector

Hey guys, it's time for me to buy a new projector in the next 30-60 days.

The room is completely sealed off from any ambient light, and I'm projecting on to a 120" Acoustically Transparent Dragonfly screen.

The throw distance is about 18 feet.

Most the time this is going to be spent with the kids playing the Wii or watching Disney movies.

What I'm getting at is I want something that doesn't suck, but I don't need anything crazy either.

I'd like something I can control via RS232.

Any recommendations for me?  I want to keep the cost down at a reasonable level.

We've done a number of these, and no complaints. Good warranty service too. We've moved to JVC recently due to supply issues, and I was concerned but ended up being very impressed with these - more so then the Epson equivalents in fact.

Good IP driver available for the RS seriess too which is nice.

But no can't think of a specific reason not to go for the Epson.

Bang for your buck = BenQ or Optoma Used both in a rental business and for the price they can't be beat. These things went out 5 times a week for several years and never an issue.

Few current projectors in the mid-scale like the 4030 still are NOT 3D. Most don't get used for 3D, but the technology is there.

As I said before, I find the JVCs simply better ( Lumens spec is lower but reality is different) - but I never had, nor do I now, have a single issue with th Epsons. If you can get the same or near to, let alone better, price on the JVC, my opinion would be to get the JVC.

I snagged an Epson 4030. At $1,749 including an extra bulb and nice mount I couldn't pass it up.

Good choice, Dan. These Epsons are our go to projectors. Be wary of the Optoma (not sure about Benq). Customer supplied his own Optoma projectors and there was only a vertical adjustment (no horizontal - or was it the opposite?) Anyway, once projector was mounted in appropriate stud bay location it was impossible to properly center the unit without moving the projector or the fixed screen.

If its a deal that could be had by others, send me an email or PM. I've been trying to find a deal on this model. There isn't even much information on it yet. AVS official thread is small.

Here is one good review of it:

I'd be happy to sell you one, but that is my cost. If you want details you can PM me, but aside from my own home we do try to make money =)

RWillis...I checked and they're about 10 weeks out (at a minimum) from getting any more, and they (the distributor) have a waiting list of prepaid units.
