troyfrezze
So I got the wife the Sony BDP-S1100 for Christmas to replace our aging Samsung bluray player. It didn't need to have wireless or 3D as it's hard wired to the in home gigabit network and let's face it...3D.Anyways, there is an IR driver that seems to mostly work for it that we installed today. The IR on the front is easy to find, but more of an issue with the IR buds themselves. The sony system and the IR bud with C4 tape on it do not like each other. Had to remove their tape and use some clear 3M thin double sided tape. Even still it's a little wonky at times where it doesn't pick up the command. Soooo, I thought I'd look into the Extra Vegetables Sony driver. I am aware they have an IP based driver and state there are some issues with some systems not powering on. I was curious if anyone has tested the driver with this model bluray player? I don't see EV having an updated "what's compatible" listing that would tell me. So if anyone has any experience with this model or a very similar model I'd love to hear from you! I'd rather find out now before I go and purchase a driver that may not work for me. SMHarman
Your dealer can give it to you as a two week demo to try before you buy. That should be enough time to iron out kinks and check it works as described. Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk
cdepaola
Turn the power off on the player and try to turn it back on with the sony ios app. If it does not turn on, which is what I suspect, then the EV ios app won't work. This is a sony issue not an EV driver issue they can fix with an update. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Gary Leeds UK
We use this driver with a 760 sony player and have no issues - great little driver cost us $
cdepaola
There was a small window or players where this driver would work. Sony has once again changed their network settings to not allow wake on lan. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
SMHarman
Yet Sony is supportive of the HA space with AVRs that contain C4 hardware and others that work great with C4 IP drivers (like my 1800 ES) Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk
ILoveC4
I use this driver with a Sony Bluray player and it works great. There was a setting I had to enable on the player for the driver to power it on, but the EV documentation clearly explained what to do. Sent from my Droid MAXX via Tapatalk. SMHarman
Like on TiVo and my Sony avr and Panasonic bluray the enable access over network. Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk
troyfrezze
Well, based on the App in the apple store, there is no support for that model or any of the other range of models that were available for sale. So I assume then this driver would not work?
ILoveC4
Get the driver on a trial and try it out. Sent from my Droid MAXX via Tapatalk.
cdepaola
I'd try the app, at a minimum, as I believe it's free. But there is a high likelihood that it won't work. You can still get the Sony BDP-S790 on Amazon, which ranks up there with the Oppo 93 / 103. The EV driver works flawlessly with this player. Would be nice if sony would stop screwing around leave the network port powered so WOL could continue to work. Can't see a reason for them making this change, especially as they made an app that needs this function to work properly. troyfrezze
The issue in doing that is simply it's way more then what we need for a bluray player and at a much higher price. I was able to buy the player we "needed" for this room for $60 at Best Buy. It's for the wife in the living room so it really only needs to be able to play blurays, dvd's and Netflix / Amazon, ect. Wifi wasn't necessary simply for the house is already wired for gigabit (year old house) and 3D isn't something we'd do in the living room. I have a dedicated theater for that. The S790 is still a $200 product. The S1100 although only 100 megabit connection, is perfect for what this room needs. Wife already loves it. The older Samsung was, and has always been slow and sluggish and several months back stopped playing DVD's. Now she's been zipping through movies and I think she's already on like episode 8 of "orange is the new black" on Netflix. I guess I'll just mess around with the IR driver a bit and see if I can get it to work better for me as well as see if my dealer buddy can get me the demo so I can see if the IP driver will work at all. If it does, I'll report back here.
ILoveC4
I bought my Sony Bluray player (S370 I think?) for $45 and it does all that, and works great with the EV driver. Powers on and everything. Sent from my Droid MAXX via Tapatalk.

Seems you could go on a legacy Sony BD spree on Amazon and then find the player that does the job and return the rest.
