Benq 1080st Projector

I also am trying to decide on a projector for my new theater. I am probably going for a w1070. I know its not the top projector, but for its price is a great deal. Have read lot of good things about it. The 1080st does have a short trtow if you need it. Look at what I found:

"The W1070 is a better model than the W1080ST because the optics required for a short throw projector aren't as good as they are with a longer throw model.

Generally, the W1070 and the W1080ST are the exact same projector, with different optics driving them both. They both use HDMI 1.4 and both should be similarly bright.

The W1080ST does not have any lens shift, so it must be placed within a few inches (or so) of the bottom of the screen and the screen must be 100% flat. Any screen issues with a short throw projector are magnified significantly by the optics of the projector.

If you can use the W1070 over the W1080ST I would go that route as it has a bit (tiny bit) more zoom range and it has a bit (tiny bit!) of lens shift which allows it to be placed even with the bottom of the screen to a few inches below the bottom of the screen (about 6" on a 100" diagonal)."

I have a W1080ST projector.  Bang for buck.  Though i needed to do a firmware upgarde on it (pain in the arse doing this) to enable 3D side by side properly.

Anyway here's a quick rs232 driver i whipped up for it.

Yeah I'm pretty impressed given how cheap it was. 3D is ok pretty average but the picture is impressive. Just need to be careful when you mount it but that's not too bad as the instructions tell you the distance vs screen size.
