MakeItAMudLight
If I already have an HC250 with the MyHome Site license and then I add an older HC800 without the license to my account can I still use it as the Director with the existing license? SMHarman
Pretty sure the answer is no. The Director needs to be on a licenced device so would need to run on the HC250. Though Zigbee etc could be offloaded to the HC800.
mstafford388
the answer is definitely no. the licenses have to be on the controller running director (or the old school site license). kind of stinks for scenarios like this one.
MakeItAMudLight
Is there an advantage to using this as a controller in my system then?
mstafford388
Only like SMHarmon said. You could have it run zigbee and also use it for a navigator screen, audio outputs, serial/ir connections.
RyanE
Unfortunately, the biggest advantage of an HC800 is to have it run both Director and Navigator. It runs Director (and Navigator) faster than the HC250. It can certainly be used as a secondary controller, all it's IO and it's ability to run Navigator make it a good controller, but you lose the benefit of it running Director. SMHarman
So the OP would need to find and buy an unredeemed My Home licence from a dealer. At that point it is probably cheaper and easier (needles / haystacks) to buy a licenced HC800. The unlicenced HC250s still have good value as secondary devices in an HC800 directed system but the HC800 without a licence is quite crippled. MakeItAMudLight
What is a fair price for a used HC800 with the licenses? And without?
SMHarman
My ebay spreadsheet says $529.57 is the average selling price of an unlicenced HC800 (max 661 min 430 (with no PSU)). With a licence it is $764.71 (max 909, min 650). Both types have 7 auction datapoints I am drawing from (14 HC800 auctions that closed with bidders) That makes the licence value about $236.14 which is a bit misleading as the only licence I have seen on there was BIN at $300 and went in a heartbeat. Is that a fair price? I don't know but it is the pricing of 14 sold HC800s.
mstafford388
Dealers can't buy site licenses any more so once they run out they run out. I'd imagine they are going to become quite hard to find. Just an FYI.
gatormike
So, if I have an existing My Home site license can I transfer that to a controller that is not licensed as part of a project upgrade?
mstafford388
your my home site license is linked to your my.control4 account, not a controller. so any controller registered as your director to that my.control4 account will have the site license.
