ROKU embraces SDDP

I'm not sure it means anything.   Simple Device Discovery Protocol - sends a multicast UDP packet out on the network every so often.  Anything listening to that particular port can discover the device and start talking to it, if it's allowed by the manufacturer.  I noticed that ATT Uverse also uses SDDP but so far UVerse is locked down to third parties - you're suppose to go through ATT's Servers to communicate to your local UVerse Box.  I'm not sure if ROKU has a public API or what all is available.  That's all that matters if you want two way Communication.

Sorry I didn't even click on the link.  Those manufacturers are partnering with Control4 for control, I wish UVerse would.

Roku has a public API, there are a number of Android / iDevice apps for it and Extra Vegetables and others have written a Control4 driver.

At the moment it is all one way drivers though.  The API does not have a response protocol in it so the response is what you see on your TV screen.

Roku runs Plex nicely, also Pandora etc.  It would be wonderful if the API could feedback what is going on with those so you could integrate a Roku as the image decoder for a mymovies or Plex type install allowing the movie / show selection from the Control4 screen (like Dune and Popcorn) and could integrate Pandora from here (not the Sonos + EV driver + Pandonos etc).  Less hardware, less carbon footprint etc.

SDDP for control4 does not mean it'll be magically added to your project.  It just means that a dealer can now identify a device with a simple press of a button.  Much like how dealers can identify lighting devices or controllers.

Drivers still need to be downloaded and added to the project prior to identification.

Hope that helps.

Yes, thanks, here is hoping that it means Roku wants to continue to make their box more installer friendly and build a 2 way API.

It can act as a cable box here in TWC land.

Well...that's not ENTIRELY accurate. The better ones out there will actually load the driver in as required without further assistance when selecting it under discovered devices. If you have more than one, you can press a button on the unit to highlight the right one so you can make it go to the right room automatically....but all of this very much still requires using ComposerPro, nor does it do your connections for you.
