thecodeman
Seemed like a no-brainer to me when I was in training at SLC back in 2009... surprised it took this long http://www.twice.com/news/home-automation/control4-buys-card-access-line/45825

ILoveC4
What's Card Access really worth? I'll have to look at that press release.
msgreenf
just to clarify misleading title - C4 did not buy CA. C4 bought the home automation product line from CA. CA will still be a separate company, but all there control4 products are now owned by control4.
cdepaola
So they bought old outdated equipment and IP? Should have bought Axxess the company. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
CFUG
^Yep, just keeps getting better and better doesn't it. Quite alright though, end users still have a choice...
cdepaola
They do and while I don't think I would have bought CardAccess I still love my C4 and wouldn't choose anything else. I've spent way too much time and effort getting my wife to like it to change now. Happy wife, happy life! CFUG
^That's the difference between us then. My wife has zero interest and say as long as it works EVERY SINGLE TIME the button is pushed. If Control4 can find a way to improve the system robustness buy purchasing "old outdated equip.& IP" then do it I. Beyond that, I don't care. mstafford388
You just have to pick and choose with card access stuff. Some of it is great. Some of it sucks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

qVAMPIREp
So they bought old outdated equipment and IP? Should have bought Axxess the company. Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkThey seem to be running the wrong way into a train tunnel. Maybe they all watched Poltergeist too many times as kids and are trying to go into the light.... Everyone else is focusing on integration and Control4 is into segregation and isolation. The comedy continues....
CFUG
^I don't see what they did as "segregation". A shot at [vertical] integration is more like it. If CA had new ideas in the hopper that C4 bought then I can understand. If C4 is going to turn-around a try making the same crap under their roof, oh well- not my nickel I guess. I bet CA has a new TStat in the works- yeah, that's it
CFUG
Wait, did CA reverse engineer the JRiver driver?

ILoveC4
Card Access is actually a really neat company that does LOTS of stuff. The Control4 stuff was a very small part of their business. They do all sorts of cool things, lots if which have to do with wireless communications in the field of aviation.
qVAMPIREp
I just wish Control4 would say they will be a bigger part of the Apple and Google HA scene by supporting the new API's. I know it's early days but the way it's looking to me they are hunkering down with an EOL product and isolating themselves further. Maybe I'm wrong, I hope I am dead wrong. I see the great HA products coming from these two and don't want to be left out with those $0.05 plastic boxes CA seems so fond of using... qVAMPIREp
Why do you view their products as eol? Sent from my XT1060 using TapatalkOn the outside they look like very tired hardware (Radio Shack Test Boxes) and they are not as flexible as the next gen HA stuff coming out that can be used on almost any platform. Maybe C4 is going to try to modernize these and spin them out to a wider market? That would be good

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI totally agree I just bought some Axxess stuff whilst the physical quality could be improved for a premium product the software / drivers and functionality for the price point is superb.
