Pre-install network setup

bkays

Question

I'm having my Control4 system set up in a few weeks (equipment has been ordered). This is in a new build, and all my network equipment is still in boxes and not in the rack or setup. I'd like to get everything ready to go before the install.

I have a Ubiquity EdgeRouter Lite 3 and Unifi AC AP PRO access points (3). Is there any document that provides how the network needs to be setup for Control4 or can anyone make any suggestions?

I will stipulate though that the USG Pro 4 doesn't have the quietest fan. Doesn't matter for me as it's in a rack in a utility closet but I'd look at the smaller USG if it was to be out in the open

My setup is:

- ERL3 (flat network. I used the default template)

- Cisco SG300 (default config)

- UAP-AC and AC-LR

Apart from a few MAC reservations and port forward programed on the ERL3 nothing else needed to be changed to accommodate my environment. Everything just works awesome.

Just make sure that you run everything to a single switch.

I also was fighting with myself to buy a USG but since the ERL has been such a solid router I decided to wait a little bit more until Ubiquiti get the Unifi USG portion right.

Nothing specific really needs to be done. Stupid question but you have experience with the EdgeRouter or with CLI? It's a great router but a pain to configure if your not a professional.

Plus the Edge stuff can't be managed in the UniFi controller with your AP's. Where as with the Unifi Security Gateway it's all managed together from the same controller and almost nothing needs to be done via CLI
