kttii
I've been looking for a cheap solution to route music to 6 rooms. The house is prewired with speaker wire to those rooms.I was looking for a simple 6 pair speaker selector that can be controlled by ir, but there don't seem to be many solutions. The closest I could find was the AB8SS from HACS (http://www.hacs.com/ab8ss.php).Has anyone used this product or found another product as simple/cheap? thecodeman
Do you have control4 at all? The Ranch project had speaker selectors and A/B switches and all that jazz before we started converting to Control4, and the multichannel amps / speakerpoints just make it easy. Plus they have built in matrix swtiches for stereo audio.
kttii
yes I have an hc300 with about 20 dimmers and 20 keypads spread throughout my home.Do you have a link? Google didnt bring up anything about "ranch project speaker selector". Like I said, I am looking for a cheap solution.I know I could buy a $500+ peice of equipment (or $400 for each c4 speaker point pair = $2400!?!?!) to REPLACE my tuner, etc, but RIGHT NOW I am looking to spend under $200 to EXPAND the capabilities of my current equipment. What's not easy about having a simple 6 pair speaker selector that accepts IR? ILoveC4
Won't you have to amplify these speakers somehow?
kttii
I admit, I don't have much audio knowledge, but I have a tuner with a built in amp.I'm not looking for perfect audio... I just want to send a little music at a moderate level to each/all/some rooms if I want. Not trying to drown out or annoy the neighbors
ILoveC4
I don't know much about audio either. That is why I kept it simple and got the Control4 Multi Channel amp (8 zone) with built in matrix switch and parametric EQ. It might cost you a little more, but an nice, easy to use system without any headaches is worth a few bucks in my book.
CFUG
^^I was thinking that way too until C4 was up & running Rhapsody. The C4 amp kicks azzz along with select subwoofers placed throughout the house. No way would I ever except less from a WH audio system after experiencing this
kttii
Thank you, I know about the C4 Multi channel amps and I would love to own at least one!!!But if I recall correctly the multi channel amps are quite a bit more than $200... right now I am quite limited by cost. ILoveC4
My opinion - put the $200 you are going to spend jerry rigging a switch together into a savings account and buy the right equipment down the road.Just my opinion.

Sorry, I was referring to one of the projects I have started to list info on here in the Showcase sub-forum.And I have to agree with what's being said by others, not because I work for a dealer and I want to make money (which, hey doesnt everyone?) , but because I've seen it happen and done it myself. I'd rather you spend the $200 towards one of the C4 multi-channel amps (4 or 8 zones) than to spend $200 now and then decide it's not what you want and spent $$$ again to get the amp.
