c4-16amp3-b as amplifier for active speakers

I'm hoping to utilise a spare c4-16amp3-b amplifier for an active speaker project and require "master" volume control. Can this be accomplished without using composer pro for the set up? I.e. with an sr250 remote or will it need integrating into a home automation system and setting up with composer pro software?
