thecodeman
It's not two way feedback, requires a USB to RS232 dongle, and can be hit-or-miss in getting it setup. The main benefit is that it's more aesthetically pleasing and the commands being sent are more reliable than IR. However in most cases we still use an emitter. tebery
I have 4 DTV HD DVR's for over 2 years now controlled by IR and have never had a problem.

Mav-Jason
The IR driver is flawless, all we use.Funny story though. About 6 months ago I was called out to high end hunting reserve in Wyoming. The call was that the CRESTRON installers could not figure out the very extensive DirecTV system for the main (and brand new) 24 suite hotel. When I got there and saw the control room, I was very impressed with this companies work (6 full racks, all nicely dressed) They were using the USB to 232 method that Codeman describes above, and had full control from all touchscreens (again I was impressed). Anyhow, they were trying to cascade 6x8 multi switches into 28 receivers. :lol:I used 2 6x16 multi-switches, which produce exactly 28 feeds and BAMN... all the receivers started taking their initial software upgrades. The punchline>>> after the software upgrade was finished, they had ZERO CONTROL
