AudioShareDave Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 We at AudioShare are designing the plastic back box for our upcoming IP Camera Door Station for C4 installs. My question: for this door station rough-in box / back box to meet code in different areas, does it need to be completely closed on the back? We've used other companies' rough in boxes for prior door station products. Those have some holes; they're mostly, but not completely closed. What's your experience on code requirements in this area?
ILoveC4 Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 If it is completely closed off there is no way to get wiring in.Typically rough in boxes have "tabs" that can be broken off to allow wire to come in, while keeping as sealed off as possible.
AudioShareDave Posted October 23, 2009 Author Posted October 23, 2009 Thanks. Is anyone familiar with specific building code around this? How much of an opening would be allowed in the back box? Our industrial designer is researching, but I wondered if anyone here would know right off what building codes might be requiring.
ILoveC4 Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 I know that here, building code can change by COUNTY, much less State.I would just go buy some rough in boxes at Home Depot and model around those.
dgbrown Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 The other thing to consider is how the devices occupying the wall boxes will be powered. There are definitely code differences between high voltage and low voltage power.
