My system gets installed later next week and I am already have the upgrade bug. I have read through the forums and did see a few recommendation but most from earlier this year.

Anyway to stream Movie content while keeping the cover art?

If you are starting out with a new system, I'd go with the sony bluray changer for DVD/BluRay since it's so much cheaper than buying the equivalent in NAS Storage, plus you don't have to rip all of your content to start using the system.

The 9150 is a nice add on (using one myself) but I'm looking forward to C4's media player as a replacement. The media player, combined with a NAS will take care of streaming and ripped copies.

I'm also still looking for solutions here. The Sony Blu-ray changer is expensive, and for all that money you still have to wait for the disc to load, etc., its technology from the 80's.

How will the media player work? Will it scan all computers on the network and stream to any TV in a C4 controlled distributed video system?

I'm implementing Just Add Power's video distribution system, and it would be really great if I could have a media PC/server that would hold all of my ripped/downloaded movies, and any TV on the network could play them.

Don't knock the changer til ya try it. If you have a large collection it is great, keeps everything organized, protected and just a click away. I've been sold on CD and DVD changers for a long time, at one point I had a STACK of 400cd changers for music until storage costs made it cheaper to store lossless.

Movies are the same way, if you want quality, then the changer is much more cost effective than lossless movie storage. If you don't care about picture quality then you can stuff a bunch of movies on a small NAS. Just remember to keep backups as hard drives will fail over time and Raid is a protection mechanism, not a backup.

1000% agree. Ripping Blu is still a costly pain at this point. It's worth the money just for the "every day easy".

Really, if you dont have time for the disc to load or cant fill that time by getting popcorn and a drink.... do you really have time to watch a 1.5 - 3 hour movie?

I have a Sony DVD changer (haven't popped for the BlueRay Changer...yet) and I also have a ton of movies (around 300 I think) that are digital copies that play from an EVA9150. I gotta say that it is really nice having the movie load instantly to the title menu. In addition to the minute or so you don't have to wait for the movie, you also don't have to deal with all the adverts and trailers that you do when watching the physical disc.

I am on the fence about what to do with regards to BlueRay. Plus, I am going to stay that way until I implement HDMI distribution through the house, which is probably several months off still.

I'm surprised that so many of you are choosing changers over servers still. I've used the 777 for years now, and it works pretty good. Even a year ago it was the best option for c4 for the money. But with the low cost of storage now a days and the c4 media player just around the corner, I would think that everyone would be holding off any changes or additions until (and I know we've been waiting forever, remember holding it at the '08 cedia?) the player is released. You won't see me buying a new changer anytime soon.

You all make valid points, the disc changer works great for a lot of people. When we sit down to watch a movie, we aren't in a rush, and watch it on the single disc blu-ray player in the home theater. We rent blu-rays from netflix, and haven't invested in the technology for several reasons that I won't go into.

My DVD collection, however, consists of mainly kids movies, and that is what the media PC would be used for. Have you tried to load a Disney movie recently? It seriously takes you 10+ minutes to get through the non-skippable previews/etc at the beginning. When you have young kids and you need to quickly throw a movie on to keep them entertained, you can see where a media PC that could instantly load and play a movie would be very handy.

ILoveC4- The Netgear 9150 looks great, does it integrate well into control4? How is it controlled, by IR? Do the movies/cover art show up automatically in the C4 GUI, or do you use Netgear's GUI?

They show up just like the movies in your DVD changer will. In fact, you cannot discern between a DVD and a digital movie, unless you look at the line for "location".

It is controlled via IP, but you could do IR if you wanted (I don't see a benefit, the IP driver works great). I use the C4 GUI to select movies, but for home videos and what not I use the Netgear GUI simply because I don't have cover art for those to display in the C4 GUI. I keep the C4 GUI for "real movies", and use the Netgear GUI for home videos.

Hopefully that makes sense.

If you preface the playback of a DVD with the commands:

Stop, Stop, Play this will bypass the menus of most DVD's and start playing the disc directly.

Wow..that is a good trick. So once the movie and the adverts are playing, press (or program the system to send the commands) stop, stop, play and it will jump right to the title?

If the disc is mounted, then the commands usually work. Some titles don't let you "stop" them when mounted so it will not work 100% of the time, but it's a nice trick when it works.
