Yale Lock - Disable Locking while door is open

Recommended Posts

I just had Yale assure locks installed on two of my doors. I tend to keep my doors unlocked when we are home, so I disabled the auto lock feature. It has a happened a few times, but sometimes when we open the door, the deadbolt extends without us knowing. Then of course, we shut the door and hear the bang from the deadbolt hitting the door.  I am not sure why the deadbolt extends which is another mystery, but might need to contact Yale for that

Is there a way to disable the yale lock (except manually turning the deadbolt) while the door is open (door contact is open state)? I saw a driver called Door Auto Lock that Ryan E made a few years ago, but I think this driver will disable the auto lock feature while the door is open. I don't think it would prevent the door from locking if someone were to hit the Yale button button.

I imagine throwing a command that will keep sending an Unlock command to the door every second when the door is open will drain the door lock battery.  Not sure if there is a way to disable the lock completely while it open, but thought id ask the community

OP is correct, the Auto Lock driver does not prevent the lock from being locked (either by hitting the lock keypad or 'lock button', or having a lock command sent via Control4) while the door is open.

It does properly pause it's own auto lock while the door is opened, and auto locks it after a configurable time after the door is closed.

Since you're hitting the lock button or the faceplate while the door is open, Control4 isn't involved at that point.  I don't know that there's a way to disable the lock from locking when those things are hit.

put a Nyce sensor on the door to read the status of the door, program the lock against the door sensor, yes it may take a moment for it to poll but may work for what your looking for, dont lock if door is open

Write a routine in C4 so that whenever the door lock changes state, if the door lock is closed and the door status is open, then open the lock. Be sure to use change in lock state for this routine so that it works even if the lock is manually closed when the door is open (think kids).

Thanks! I hadn't realized this... Just disabled on a couple of my doors...  :)

Awesome, hope it helps. We had the same problem on 2 of our doors where the bolt would slam against the jamb from accidental touch. For whatever reason people seem to bump the screen on those doors (not the others) and I had to disable the "fist bump to lock" feature lol.

Definitely.  The lock banging into the jamb is why I made the 'Auto Lock' experience button, since I had contact sensors in the door already...

:)

I did leave it enabled on one of my Yale locks, the one to the AirBnB apartment in the basement, since I think they'd be locking it from the outside a lot more than I typically do (we usually leave via the garage).

Some Yale locks may have a lock bypass feature or a passage mode. This mode allows you to temporarily disable the locking mechanism, providing unrestricted access while the door is open. Refer to the lock's user manual or contact Yale's customer support for specific instructions on how to activate this feature, as it may vary depending on the lock model.
