Engraving Keycap buttons

Hello!

Just a question I can't seem to find an answer for.  I have a Glowforge laser engraver at my home.  I have been playing around with different settings trying to engrave keycap buttons for my system and can not seem to make them work.  My question is, does anyone know if the keycap buttons that come with the keypads that are not engraved different material than the ones you receive from C4 when you order them engraved?  I know that the diffusers are something you need on an engraved button and they pop into the back of the keypad, but is the material physically different?

More for curiosity than anything, it would just be nice to be able to make my own with custom pictures icons and other items that you can not get from C4.

Additionally, if anyone has successfully done this with a Glowforge, I'd love to know what settings you used to make it work.

Thanks to everyone!

They are different than the blank keycaps... instead of a solid opaque plastic (grey) painted, they appear to be a translucent plastic that is painted and then engraved... see photo for comparison...
