cnicholson
Does DS2 have an "offline" mode where it will accept a valid code and work its internal relays even without a live network connection to the controller? Or does it become "dead" without a connection? I plan to use a DS2 to work our (far away) car entrance gate and I'm wondering what happens when the network is down (not internet, but the ethernet link between DS2 and the network switch). Thanks. Matt Lowe
It will be dead as the Ds2 relies on director for this kind of control from what i know. It maybe possible to configure it with in the DS2 but i have not messed with the internal gui settings that far. The more important questions is why do you think the LAN will be unreliable. This should be one of the more reliable things that you have in the network. cnicholson
Jerm1
Yes, the codes will work even if it not "online" cnicholson

Core network in house has been solid, but the DS2 is on a down-stream network that connects to main house a couple hundred feet away and has become flakey for some reason. RyanE
If the codes are put into the 'relay 1' spot using the web UI of the DS2, the code will actuate the relay when entered. If the code is entered via Control4, and/or is not put in the 'relay 1' spot, it will require Control4 programming to activate the 'relay 1' relay on the DS2, so it won't actuate if Director is unavailable. Copper is limited to about 300ft. So if you are pushing to this length you may want to look at adding another switching in somewhere to boost the signal. If possible even switch it to fiber and get local power.

They were supposed to put in a fibre run during pre-wire and early construction, but didn't. So I'm putting in a small switch halfway along the run as a "booster." Trying to get a 10G link going for future proofing. -Chris
