chopedogg88
Is it possible to just use standard HDMI extenders to send audio back from a TV's HDMI ARC port to a Sonos AMP in the rack over cat6? So that the Samsung remote can be used to control volume? Or am I better off just using digital optical audio extenders, then converting to analog audio at the Amp? chopedogg88
I don't need to send any video from the rack to the TV...just using Samsung TV apps.
Matt Lowe
Binary has an HDMI ARC balun over cat cable. let me know if you cant order one. https://www.snapav.com/shop/en/snapav/binary-audio-return-extender-for-hdmi-arc-and-spdif-b-260-arc-a
chopedogg88
Thanks Matt. I can purchase myself through Control4/Snap. So this works differently than just using any HDMI baluns and putting the transmitter at the TV and the receiver at the AMP?

chopedogg88
got it, so its different than just sending full HDMI from the TV to the AMP. (sorry I'm not knowledgeable on exactly how ARC works). do these also allow the Sonos AMP volume to be controlled by the Samsung remote? Matt Lowe
Yea it basic just handles all of the HDMI ARC signals. This would include CEC control for power and volume, and then your audio signal up to DD+

They work, though I have experienced some occasional bugs with them (sometimes I lose audio and need to restart them). Then again, I've had bugs with pretty much any balun and the price is reasonable. They do work with Sonos Amps down in the rack. Also major bonus is no lip-sync issues the way you get with optical. Did you use SPDIF optical or HDMI ARC for audio output? On 12/5/2022 at 10:52 PM, Topspin14m said: We use these in my setup. Is a driver required for the AV Binary B-260-ARC, as I didn’t see one in the C4 driver database? I’m just using for 2.0 in-ceiling speaker set up. You don’t need a driver. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk IBZICON

chopedogg88
I used the Binary baluns, they work great and allow you to control the volume of the Sonos with the TV remote (optical does not). Also the problem with optical (and Sonos) is that Sonos AMPs dont' have an optical or coax audio input...only HDMI ARC and analog.
