Carter Hobson
Hello, I am planning a Control4 Install and have a few questions about ARC compatibility. In this case I would have a smart TV (Sony or other brands) with HDMI ARC support and a Denon AVR (Also with ARC support). Both devices will be IP controlled. I also have an EA-1 connected to the Denon receiver via HDMI. Will Control4 be able to switch the TV and Denon AVR to ARC when watching content on the smart tv, however still use it normally when watching content from a Blu-Ray player (Connected to the AVR via HDMI). My goal is to only have to run 1 cable for audio and video between the smart TV and AVR. Thanks for the help!
c4toys
C4 doesnt play well like that. Im sure with the path setter driver and programming you can make it work but most of us stay away from ARC, zone 2, CEC as a standard Carter Hobson
rogerave4u
Buy a Roku don't use smart tv to stream. ARC is trouble. therockhr and Carter Hobson
chopedogg88
Should be fine, but I would still agree that you're better off just buying an $80 Roku because Control4 will be able to work with it flawlessly, whereas controlling the smart TV apps can be hit or miss. RAV
ARC requires CEC to be on. CEC likes to mess up the operation with smart remotes. Have all your sources at the receiver, and use the display as a dumb monitor for smoothest operations. Carter Hobson
Carter Hobson
Thanks for the info! Seems like using an Apple TV / Roku connected to the AVR is the better choice!

I was leaning towards Apple TVs, but it all depends on how good the driver/integration is.
Cyknight
AppleTV you'll have basic control (new paid 3rd party driver promises some app selection control, cannot confirm if that is working yet) - Roku with Control4 made driver gives you full control, including so-called mini app selection (ie instead of selecting Roku (or AppleTV), then find the app in the interface, you just have a list of 'Netflix/Disney+/Whatever) on your remote and it will auto-start that app directly. If you really like the AppleTV menu..well I wouldn't stop you at all, but you really don't NEED the menu with a Roku (other options do exist, Roku at this point is just the safest bet) - and image quality is frankly equal. For a half the price, and no paid driver.

Cyknight
Yes a (GOOD) android TV, like a shield, is a great option as well.
