ajd123
First time working with Maglocks. 1) Do all mag locks come with a header plate? 2) I want to install a maglock vertically along the side of the door (not horizontally at the top). Does this matter? 3) What would be the best way to install this for integration into Control4 so I can create a button to unlock? Do I power it off my US-48-500W Unifi switch or the EA5? 4) For an internal door inside a house, is 600lbs holding capacity sufficient (verse 1200)? These are the maglocks I was considering: https://www.en.adiglobaldistribution.ca/Product/LC-MG1200DT https://www.en.adiglobaldistribution.ca/Product/HX-K4H250S
Jack_Ckun
is this going to be integrated with a card access system as well? if so use a relay to trigger the Rex for this zone. with the relay door controller driver. if not use a relay +12 v (power to maglock) to trigger the maglock with the same driver. you should add contacts to know if the door is open and closed. Andrew luecke
What are you planning to use the maglock for? Honestly, I generally wouldn't use them in residential applications for a lot of reasons
Jack_Ckun
I agree with Andrew. I use Door Strikes for entry at home and one door in basement so my son wont go in to it https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071HBR584/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=

Now that we have established the purpose, can anyone provide feedback to my questions regarding Control4 integration?

Would love to see some pictures when it's all done. I've got a space where I want to add a hidden door in a bookshelf also, and never thought to lock/unlock via control4. Jack_Ckun
no as it’s not an entrance. Using a relay off the controller or io ext or a wireless relay is good to use
Jack_Ckun
Also make sure you get a fail safe lock so if power is loss or relay fails you can get in to it
cnicholson
I have a couple of secret rooms behind false walls. Not C4 integrated, but I just use a spring-loaded magnetic latch (non locking) and a Stealth Lock with RF keypads. Honestly, I just leave it unlocked 90% of the time. Other than the general impulse to "Put everything under C4 Control" (which I get), I'm not sure if I see the use case for C4 control. I prefer the dedicated StealthLock keypads (one inside the room and one outside) versus the risk of getting stuck inside without a way to access Control4 controls to unlock. https://stealthlock.com I do have a mag lock on a "man gate" in my front fence. It is controlled by a spare contact switch on a (pretty far away) EA-5 and works great. I put a Chime on the fence near gate so people can "ring the bell" to be let in. A also have a custom code on the nearby DS2 that controls the car gate that unlocks the man gate for 10 mins.

The mag lock is a good option for doors that don’t have a latch at all because it will pull the door tight to the doorstop to make it less visible. This is another option I have used in the past which also works pretty well: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B07X8N9TN2?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

It doesn’t have to be C4 controlled from “Lock” perspective, u still can add sensors of all kind and get a status of what is going on with these rooms …

As far as keypad vs c4, a push to exit button inside would be a good idea either way
Andrew luecke
One thing I'm surprised no one has mentioned is that generally (at least in my experience) maglocks need to line up exactly too, or they don't close properly. There are generally better ways as others have mentioned of handling them. But you'd definitely want it fall safe (as others have mentioned)

Yes they need to line up well - but then again so does a deadbolt.
