Question

What’s the consensus on the best way to geofence with Control4? I’ve got a mix of apple and android phones, so a pure apple solution won’t work. I basically want to open the garage door as I approach and close it if it’s left open. I’ve explored using Unifi to see devices fall off and reappear, but I get a lot of false alerts with it.

is there something better out there?

Thanks Alan - interesting that you now need HA to do stuff in C4.  I have played around with HA a bit, running it in a docker container on my Unraid server.  Presumably that is sufficient rather than needing Home Assistant Green?

You don't need home assistant to do stuff.   We chose to integrate home assistant so that control4 could have the thousands of integrations that home assistant have.  It's actually become one of our top drivers.

You can use any home assistant installation you want.  Doesn't have to be green.  We recommend green for those who don't want to make their own as it's plug and play.

Guys, if you have Unifi as your APs and want to give it a try, I posted my server-side geofencing driver here on c4forums, have a look and reach me in case of issues!

I  am testing a new version of my driver that allows for multiple copies of the driver to be installed, to monitor other wi-fi devices for presence.

I use it, for example, to check on my Ring Intercom, which has a rechargeable battery... when its presence disappears I send a push to inform me that I need to recharge the  battery.
