C4 Speaker Point question

Recommended Posts

Obviously, a newbie here. I have a question. I was an early C4 adopter. I have a 12 zone system which was all on speaker points. I’m not sure why ask the installer but it has worked. The question I have is can these speaker points work  without a Control4 system for a simple set up. Could you bypass or reset the devices so that it just functions as a simple amplifier? If so how?  I tried unsuccessfully. Could you attach a streaming device such as WIIM and have the speaker point function as the amplifier?. I have 12 of these laying around. Seems like a waste to throw them away. Could be a inexpensive way to get up and streaming in my sons apartment.

Thanks

You can turn the speaker points into amp only modes and run the c4 system in a static always on only state.

Thank you for the reply. Do you need your installer or equivalent to do this or is it a simple process that I could perform?

As he is talking about still using a c4 controller (to ensure the speaker points are local only and turned to amp mode at all times, plus have a set volume) you'd need composerpro - and a controller, an older one as the new controllers require a system version as a minimum that will not accept those speaker points.

So the anser is no, you cannot use them standalone - though you could -technically- use nothing other than a controller (and a router and network switch) to use them as static one zone amps.

While i feel the idea of it being a waste, you're better off just getting a few cheap static amps in that scenario in my opinion.
