South Africa C4 user Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Having been (relatively) pro the Neeo and relatively late to the party in getting a Touch (I only took the leap because my first Neeo died totally), I thought it was worth commenting on the Touch relative to the Neeo (and including a few wish list items). Much of what I say hear has probably been said by others already. Starting with the big pros on the Touch compared to the Neeo: 1. It is fantastic having backlit buttons back (although I acknowledge this is more a psychological item / safety blanket) than anything else as muscle memory is developed quickly and I didn’t really need these on the Neeo but I did want them! 2. Much better screen layout when a device is playing (still able to see 9 experience buttons as opposed to 6 on the Neeo). 3. Swiping right to access most of the key menu options is very neat. 4. The Home Screen in sleep / lock mode is great. In my view it does away with the need for a watch button on the main screen so one still has the full 9 custom buttons available for other things. 5. Room changing is handled better. Not that I ever use this. 6. The smooth scroll down for extra experience buttons on the home page is nicer than the swipe left on the Neeo although I am still getting used to the idea of scrolling down as opposed to right (even though this is consistent with all other navigators). 7. WiFi is much much better than the Neeo. 8. A much more intuitive physical keypad layout. 9. Great to have the OSD back as a physical button although I do miss the red 4… 10. Software menus look much better! Turning to some of the things I miss compared to the Neeo: 1. the quick access menu that one got by swiping right (scrolling left) on the Neeo is a big miss for me. I realise that you can create something similar with a custom buttons menu but I liked the swipe and it frees up one experience button for other use. 2. Moving the room off button to the top of the remote was a really silly move in personal view (worst feature of the remote - that said, if this really is the worst feature then there is nothing to complain about). 3. We really need the programming commands back that were on the Neeo (namely “home” and “change room”). Then some general comments and (personal) gripes: 1. I don’t like the fact that you see the beginning of the fourth row of experience buttons on the Home Screen (when not watching something). I get that this is presumably to tell people that there is more if they scroll but it looks tacky… 2. I don’t like the fact that you lose the last part of the third row of experience buttons on the Home Screen (when watching something). I get that this is presumably to tell people that there is more if they scroll but it also looks tacky… 3. I sincerely hope that they have packed the remote with enough power / memory to allow for software updates like camera viewing etc. 4. There really needs to be the ability to show different experience buttons on the Home Screen of a remote and the Home Screen on the controller behind the TV. One often wants different things and a different order (for visual appeal). Maybe X4 will allow this? I got round this (on my Neeo) using 2 different rooms (with duplicate connections - I think) and lots of fancy programming. I suspect that I could cut back on the programming somewhat using media scenes but am not sure that I will go this route with the Touch. 5. I don’t really like the new style icons BUT they are growing on me. The biggest issue for me is they don’t really match all of the current experience buttons from other driver developers (including Control4 itself). As a consequence, the UI looks a bit messy. 6. It would be really nice to have the option of showing the 4 colour buttons in a row immediately below the name of the device playing (above the experience buttons) on the main page. Ideally an option that can be changed programmatically so one can show it for some devices and not for others. 7. Deleted this point as it was a red herring! All in all a really good remote!
