Nehsmit Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Hi all, my controller randomly reboots sometimes once a week and at other times 5 times in a day. Not sure why or how to troubleshoot but here is the dilemma. Recently I was away and it rebooted but didn’t reconnect. I couldn’t get it back online from away and so lost all control of the home. Would a WiFi smart plug potentially help here? If I plug the controller into a smart WiFi plug and I can’t get it back online I figure I could restart the plug which may help. Any thoughts are appreciated. thanks in advance. Quote

Nehsmit Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 But is there a way to ensure I can reboot remotely if it goes offline? Quote
Andrew luecke Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 What drivers are you using? Your installer should definitely take a look at this Quote
ILoveControl Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 I have the exact same issue - what controller are you running I am running a EA5. Latest OS yes. Quote

Loki Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 I also have had this issue for a while. Fortunately, I have all equipment on WattBox IP power conditioners and have a 'Reboot C4' routine in OvrC that power cycles the EA5 as needed. Quote
eggzlot Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 (edited) Ive had 3-4 reboots in the last 72 hours I also see Snap resolving some issues last night into this morning - wonder if there is a correlation Edited December 11, 2024 by eggzlot Quote
Nehsmit Posted December 11, 2024 Author Posted December 11, 2024 I have an EA-5, and the same issue happened again last night. My EA5 is on a battery backup, and despite this, it had not come back online. None of my scheduled events were carried out. I had to unplug it this morning to manually get it back online. Can someone please tell me how to handle this issue when I am away next week? Is there a workaround? I thought maybe a smart wifi outlet that I could power off and back on remotely in case the EA5 doesn't reboot. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Quote

This would work as a temporary fix but you do need to get to the bottom of the issue. It is not normal for a controller to reboot randomly. Sounds like a bad driver to me… Quote

c4toys Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 I have been having the same issue for around 5-6 months. random reboots some weeks once, some weeks 2-3x. The other morning it rebooted 10min before my alarm is set to wake. That did not make for a good morning. Rob21 1 Quote
Topfox Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I had good success with C4 troubleshoot my controller rebooting 3-5 times a day every day. They set up logging on my system and I’d send them a note every time it restarted. Had to wait for the latest OS version to come out before I could get the fix, but they were able to fix it with that latest release. Highly recommend getting a ticket open. Quote

Wow, you are a good citizen! I would probably have rolled back to an earlier version and then stood cowering in a corner until someone else figured out the bugs. Quote

I definitely started off more energetic about the process, but will admit after a couple of months it definitely got old. lol. But hey, they figured out the issue and how to fix it, so guess it benefits everyone. I’m just glad it was actually a bug and not something idiotic I did. Rob21, DLite and c4toys 2 1 Quote
Rob21 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I have also had seemingly random controller reboots over the past few months (some weeks worse than others). Core5 on the latest OS. Quote
Andrew luecke Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 You need to debug the cause of the issue.. You likely need to contact your installer. In some cases I've seen though, it can also be temperature/cooling related or bad network too. Quote

Sent from my SM-S916U using Tapatalk I had started this thread - - I was experiencing a black screen and then lost video but audio was still coming through on the Triad speakers. I eventually realized it was because the EA 5 was rebooting. Might be a rabbit hole tried to debug it but seems like more were having reboots Quote
