dburton Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Does anyone know of a central vac that can communicate with C4?
RHS Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Are you being funny or are you serious? What would you want C4 to do with the central vac?
TrikinCurt Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Not sure if he is or isn't, but i did know of a PLC or UPB (forget) one at EHX last year. The idea was you could have it shut off when the doorbell rang or something silly like that.Curt
RHS Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Didn't think about that... that would be a good idea.In that case just use a C4 switch to shutdown the central vac when the doorbell rings.
junebug Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 too bad the outlet switches arn't shipping yet, apparently they sence if a load is on or off. plug and play baby!
andy.cytexone Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 great ideas, RHS & Junebug. I like your thinking...
dburton Posted March 18, 2006 Author Posted March 18, 2006 The idea is to have the vac shut off if the phone rings or the doorbell rings. The C4 plug-in outlet would do the trick.
danlevine Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 We are so close... I wonder when they are going to really ship...
junebug Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Most vacs are plugged in so, you could yank the duplex box out, add in a remodel 4-plex box, add a c4 switch to control the duplex outlet. This way you have a solution to control the power.

gregka Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Most CV units are turned on with a relay at the can. Can you not use a normally closed relay and then open it when the phone or doorbell rings?
jamman Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 You certainly could, but the real application is how long do you set this for? The customer is using the VAC and you kill it for 30 sec. then while he is talking on the phone the relay kicks back in and the unit start again blasting his tel conversation. Maybe you could simply pulse it a few times to get them to pull the hose out before answering the call. Some ideas are novel, but the implementation requires more thought. Cool concept and with a relay connection, very cheap to implement. Got to love this stuff!Jamman
danlevine Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 You can use a phone line voltage detector. Similiar to the way Tivo, or other devices sense when the phone is in use. This is how a multi line phone that is not part of a PBX lights up when a telephone somewhere else connected to the same line is using it.
jamman Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Good one Dan, As long as the phone is off hook, no VAC.....But what if the cleaning lady is downstairs and your on a call in the Bedroom? heheJamman
SMcLean Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Must me nice to have soooo much free time....
soundwaveslakeland Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 cool ideal, but really? my central vac is already so quite i can talk on the phone while i vacuum, lol.
c44me Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I think its a rack mounted C4 controller that sucks your $money$ into switches, tvs, pjs etc etc all done via a wireless zigbee mesh network
