  1. My family had become so used to using Alexa to play music before we installed C4, I needed some solution to get acceptance of the system. I ended up with echo dots in rooms and echo flexes in the rack. Each dot is paired with a flex as the default speaker so when the family ask Alexa to play a song (just as they normally would with Alexa - no extra words), it plays through the flex. The triad amp senses the audio and switches to that input. It is not perfect - it doesn’t work for all alexa’s functionality (eg Alexa timers don’t seem to play anywhere) and the first 0.5 second or so of audio is lost when switching sources to the Alexa and obviously Control4 just shows the echo as the source without any more information such as song title, etc. But better than not being able to play music with Alexa through the in-ceiling speakers for me.

  2. In case it's of interest, here is document another C4 dealer, Ryan Messinger created detailing how to integrated Alexa into a Control4 multi-zone audio system. https://www.dropbox.com/s/r3yzu7v48ov3smw/Integrating Alexa’s Audio into a Control4 Audio System.pdf?dl=0

  3. 11 APs? how much square footage over 10k? Get a couple Rukus cut that down a bit. But seriously if all of this is that ridiculous just separate c4, create a vpn for c4 so when home on your 11 ap you can use c4 app as if on same network.

  4. Somewhat important piece of information and an example of why Trouble Shooting via a Forum is difficult at best and why on-site support in this case is needed. We don't know your full set-up, how its configured, etc. As @msgreenfmentioned, move everything using those switch ports onto your Unifi switch. Also, your wife's situation is not unique, by any stretch of the imagination. If she's using multiple computers and devices for her secure communication in the home then they obviously aren't that important. Clients and friends I've got that need this level of security typically have a single computer on an isolated and wired network and a secondary mobile device just for their business communications. That is a home computer and and work only computer, a primary mobile device and a secondary work only device.

    Capabilities of Alexa

Here is what I have done with Google home that works well....Google home lets you take a Google Device (mini/clock/display) and then with each one pair a music device. That means that small local speaker of the device is used for basic commands but when you say play music, that will play via the paired music device. I have my paired music device as a Chromecast audio and I use Triad matrix to auto-sense the audio. I have this setup in my master and plan to expand this setup to other rooms....

  6. And doing this at room level is (arguably in most cases) better than at source level...

  7. yes, cause Netlflix isn't the real source, Roku is...Netlfix is just an app launch shortcut

  8. Yes! That´s the way! I tried first with Netflix and did´nt work. Tried with Roku and works perfect! Do you know why this? And why doesnt work if I tried directly with Roku and not the room? Thank you msgreenf and mujatba

  9. So, I’ve got “extra” remotes as the SR250’s have no value and no point in getting rid of them. In my basement theater area, on the bar between the theater and game room, I have both a NEEO and an SR250. The NEEO gets used more than the SR250, but they both get used. This is primarily the kids. In the bedroom I have a NEEO on my nightstand and my wife has an SR250 on hers. She’d take a NEEO, but also doesn’t care so I save the $$$.

  10. Crestron is the giant Crestron has no native voice and they use Josh.Ai too c4 manages a platform to connect various devices. They do not design hardware as a core business focus. Most of their hardware is rebranded stuff with a different UI slapped on it. So in that respect they are doing their job because they integrate Alexa and Google Home as well as Josh.Ai

I also looked into JoshAI. It’s just crazy to me the amount of money that has to be spent to achieve this simple task within Control4. I mean, isn’t C4 this big giant now in automation, but we still have to invest in something like JoshAI to achieve very basic voice control over music? What are the C4 company developers and programmers doing all day? Haha. One would think that it’s even a bit embarrassing having to buy third party hardware and software to get this to work. I don’t care about asking Alexa for cooking information or what the capital city is of Arizona, I just want voice control over music on the whole home audio. I also have 10 touchscreens all strategically placed. If the mic on the T3 would be able to pick up commends and process them for music, that would be awesome!

    Large Network switches

I'm 100% with you... It's a comment that periodically gets brought up in this forum and normally ends in long and contentious debate

    Large Network switches

For the OP’s scenario you don’t need network switching for these devices (at least the Dots)...only PoE power....

    Large Network switches

You are comparing apples to oranges. A midspan PoE injector has no network switching capability. It literally just injects power onto an Ethernet cable (or multiple Ethernet cables in this case). For the OP’s use, he wouldn’t have anything connected to the “LAN” inputs on the injector...only his Dots & shades (assuming they’re only PoE for power) would be connected to the “LAN+PoE” outputs of the injector.
