  3. I have to imagine you've not actually had proper video distribution with that mindset. If you have a bunch of TV's it's incredibly nice. You have a minimal number of sources to replace/swap out when you want to upgrade, you can easily distribute the same thing to multiple TV's, you can pause in one room and pick up in another...it's really a phenomenal experience.

  4. If he bought new from an authorized dealer, then he would have enough support to get his system updated, up and running and stable. He likely bought used so I would expect they wont sit there like a forum would and baby sit every step of the way. Honestly, I have 4 WAPs, a couple new, a couple used. 2 reflashed to Unleashed. If you know what you are doing or can patiently watch a 5 min You tube video, its simple. If not, its a perfect use case to have a dealer do it for you.

  6. 100%. We all know I am not a Rukus guy but Eero is consumer grade networking at best and that's usually the beginning of peoples problems. Eero Pro is just for their newest Tri-Band. If i remember correctly Eero also caps their mesh transfer speeds I think somewhere in the 300mbs but I would research that. Unifi Mesh or Orbi Pro are both very capable and fully configurable.

  7. The price between a Configurable Keypad and Keypad dimmer is minimal. And the Keypad dimmer will install quicker because you don't need to retrofit in another electrical box for the keypad, you just replace the switch thats already there. And you get the benefit of lighting control. So I still say your best off getting the keypad dimmers and replace the switch in every room you want audio control in. By that point half the lighting in the house will be automated and it wouldn't be hard to add in a few more lights and really get some awesome functionality.

  8. This is very fair comment. I'm a Control4 advocate, but I still do exactly what you describe. C4's handling of intercom and security cameras has always bean a weakness, and so it remains. My guess is that security cameras can't/won't improve until the next gen of processors. Having to dumb down modern IP cameras to 720P resolution is a tradeoff that most people don't want or like. I don't like Sonos integration, but I do like the Sonos app UX. Intercom looked promising for a moment, but it's clearly a work in progress. That's a hard sell when so many customers have a baseline that is a

  9. Rotary Volume knobs are not really compatible with a system like Control4, Those are really meant for old school speaker selector systems. The reason I don't recommend them is because in order for them to work you need to run the Control4 amp 24/7/365 at a high volume and never shut off your stream so your constantly burning power and using bandwidth when your not even listening to the system. Control is meant to be turned on / off properly with the app. Not to be running 24/7/365 then volume turned up/down with a knob on the wall. So long story short your best option is

  11. Yes I am super angry. There is smoke coming out of my ears Never understood why people who do not like a product hang out in their forums and bash it. It is like they have nothing better to do in their life. Like I am not a fan of EDM - am I hanging out in EDM forums comparing their latest stars to my favorite musicians in folk and alt country music? I do not drive a pick up truck, but I drive an SUV - do I hang out in Ford F150 forums telling people to go buy an SUV because they are better? I dunno, I guess I figure people have a better use of their time - but maybe I gave you too m

  13. Eh I have a basement bar/billiard/game area w 3 TVs it's nice to sync a game to it and audio. Or sometimes we just use the bar TV but down mix the audio to the other areas speakers. There are definitely use cases for it. Also you can pause on one TV go into the bedroom and pick up where you left off without any hitches. Not as easy to do if you're loading a new Roku/ShieldTV/AppleTV etc. It's definitely more of a convenience than requirement. That being said our theater we have dedicated Roku/Shield into the AVR to get full surround sound.

  17. though not possible, there is no on going cost to use lighting in C4 and HVAC in c4. so maybe you do not want to add audio, video, etc to the system, but it will remain working for lighting. Oh and C4 works with Alexa, you can tell it to turn lights on/off. The biggest on going cost for Alexa, and if you want to access your lights when off your home network is $99/year for 4sight (comes with a lot of other stuff too). and if you are technically inclined you can buy Composer Home Edition - 1x fee of $149 and includes 1 year of 4sight so really like $50 for the software - you can do 95% of t

    Key Pad LEDs

As there is no 'flash' mode on keypad button LEDs by design, as flash is annoying, the only way to do this is to send on / off commands to the keypads for every flash on / flash off. This causes a large number of Zigbee packets on the network, and *really* is not recommended. That said, if you wanted to do it, the best way would be to create a repeating timer in the Timer agent, put programming to toggle the LED when the timer goes off (if needed, use a separate variable to track state), start the timer when the door is opened, and stop the timer (and set the LEDs to the 'off color')

  20. I would buy three FlexHDs and not pro ceiling mounted before using that Eero if you are into Unifi. They have more universal 'bubble' output RF pattern similar to plug and play mesh repeaters like Eero. Network will be ready to go to WiFi6 models when they are more readily available. I know you expected it to be bashed on here but realize that some of are network techs only concerned about performance/reliability and don't hold brand loyalty.

  21. Totally agree Eero just works but it's not as performant as Ruckus which is enterprise grade and can carry many more simultaneous connections. I happen to like Eero - i have directed many friends and family members to buy them! They love em. But they also just want it to work and aren't going to complain that they aren't getting 600MB wifi

I know this doesn’t really help but I just wanted to add that I’ve had the same problem just with Pandora in the past. I’ve also looked through all of the forums when I was having the problem and I was in the same spot as you. I haven’t had the problem in a few months now and my guess is a software update fixed it.

  30. Maybe a little off topic, but it brings up an interesting point or two. People are often debating if automation really saves us any time at all..... For people in the household who never program, maintain, update/upgrade, etc the system. Yeah, it actually makes their life go a little faster / easier. For the person(s) who are responsible for the former, it is either They are getting paid to do it (ie, your dealer). So basically you are paying for convenience, which is exactly what you would expect. (provided you have a good dealer and are happy with the res

Need: Wall mountable, battery operated, water resistant/proof Idea is to use separate codes for each door, but also trigger other programming if other codes entered. Eventhough I have no August locks, can their keypad be used for general access control?

Yeah I mean by all means go ahead and get one of the most high end, premium lighting systems on the market and pair it with the cheapest controller available. You do you. I will say in the panelized lighting training I am sure I read something along the lines of "If the customer has the budget for panelized lighting, then they have the budget for an EA-5" In training they basically say that as soon as you mention panelized lighting you should be looking at an EA5. Like I say EA3 will do. I wouldn't personally get an EA1 or CA1 and in the scope of a project like this spending the ex

  37. I tend to disagree. Lots of reasons to have distributed video in 4K, and lots of my clients are doing it as we speak. -4K NVR/Cameras -4K Roku/Apple TV/Shield/Google TV/Fire TV/media player of the day -Kaleidescape Player -DirecTV, Comcast, Tivo, etc (live TV, OTA) Of course its not for everyone, but its a much more elegant way to share/manage/maintain your video sources rather than trying to stick these devices behind large TVs which are flush mounted to walls. When the new media player of the day comes to market, simply swap out the old one in your rack in 5 minute

  40. You'll need to capture logs and send it to our helpdesk for us to troubleshoot. If it is intermittent then the only thing i can think of is network replated issues. Thing that comes to mind is some people try to reboot their network with it but don't understand that without the network Control4 cannot send an on command to it to turn it back on again.

  47. I guess Snap should hire you because of course then they'd have zero issues sourcing parts and materials that will absolutely always live 100% up to the supplier's specs and will always fulfill Snap's expectations. Oh wait, that isn't possible. Like every manufacturer, Snap/Control4 are going to have issues from time to time (fortunately with Control4, it's been very infrequently), and having it be a variable cost to fix is a good way to go out of business. With relatively few 8" T4's released, it's not unreasonable for Control4 to set a fixed rate for replacement. RyanE
