Random Room Off
brucecampbell replied to brucecampbell's topic in Troubleshooting, Workarounds, & Bugs
I appreciate your thoughts with this issue. I have three remotes (SR260), each remain in their own room, each set to their own room and no remote was in use at the times this event happened. No one was using the app, in fact we hardly ever use the app. The only programming which sends room off commands is a macro which is only run when we arm the security system. This also sets all the LED's to red and starts the 'arm to away' sequence. This did not happen, so it was not the macro being run. Given I can't find any other reports of this issue, I doubt a bug has been introduced to V3.3.3 So that leaves me thinking my remote is on its last legs, perhaps it sent the command without being touched. I don't see any programming options to allow me to debug this issue, ie: when remote button 'room off' is pressed.... log date and time... So I don't think I have many options other than to see if it happens again.....and maybe swap remotes. -
Random Room Off

I don't have any mockupancy installed. Only have one remote for this room and it was sitting on the table at the time. No C4 apps in use at the time either. Just a bit weird, and also a bit worrying to have unusual things happen days after a system upgrade... Moved from using a couple of HC800's to a Core5 and IO Extender. -
Random Room Off

Yes, C4 thinks the room is off. The C4 remote shows nothing active. -
Three times now, I have been watching TV and the room just turned off. I recently upgraded to V3.3.3, prior to this upgrade, I never had this happen. I've checked my programming and can't see anything which would cause this. Anyone else experience this?

I believe in earlier instances the composer version had to match the director version? Is this not the case anymore? I have been upgraded, director is now 3.3.3.660628-res composer is 3.3.3.660784-res Is this fine? Cheers.

My Alexa app wants me to add my Roku device. I’m looking for advice as to what I can gain by doing so? I already have C4 voice control to turn on the room to use Netflix or YouTube via Roku and have full remote control. Am I missing out on anything? or would adding it as a device conflict with the C4 voice controls? Thanks.

Alexa skill not linking
brucecampbell replied to dman000000's topic in Troubleshooting, Workarounds, & Bugs
Thanks for posting. I just tried to reset by diabling the skill and enabling again, but all I get is: "We are experiencing a problem connecting with the skill to link your account" "You can try linking your account again by visiting the Control4 skill page" I'm assuming the problem you mentioned is my problem... will try again tomorrow. -
Alexa Room Awareness Driver
brucecampbell replied to terminaldisclaimer's topic in Driver Discussion
Hi, perhaps I'm a bit ignorant here, as I have not played much with my Alexa set up since I first got it running many years ago... But I believe you simply set up groups in the alexa app for the room and assign C4 devices to the group as well as the alexa device in that room. Then when you say 'Turn off the TV' alexa knows which device you are talking about. Same goes for lights, I say turn on the lights in the patio and my scene for three light circuits comes on. However - I am all for more drivers with more control, so better Alexa control will be great!! -
Alexa skill not linking
brucecampbell replied to dman000000's topic in Troubleshooting, Workarounds, & Bugs
I always had trouble each time I changed things around, and I can't remember any exact path I followed to get everything to work, But, If you try from both sides, it usually resolved things for me. ie: Remove and redescover devices from the Alexa side - I used to use the website, but I think they force you to use the App and/device now. Then also make sure each device/scene is ticked in the C4 web site under voice control. -

A and B speakers for different Rooms
brucecampbell replied to brucecampbell's topic in Best Practices
This is how my home is set up. All three receivers are IR driven Only one, the Harmon Kardon is 2 zone, zone 1 is the lounge AV, zone 2 is our patio audio. It still takes up two audio outputs from C4 though, as to use zone 2 independently, you need to have a separate analogue audio in. The zone two driver was a clone, but was essentially stripped right back and re-coded to only use power on/off, volume up/down/mute and source = AUX. I'm guessing that your comment is referring to receivers now integrating via IP?? I haven't really look at new receivers in the last five years - are they moving away from IR? -
A and B speakers for different Rooms

Thanks, I'm happy going down the used AVR option. I'll get around to it one day. I have more pressing matters of a new controller and IO right now, given one of my HC800 packed in during our recent storm and power outages. I was interested to see if there was a quick and easy method already available in C4. -
Possible power surge damage?
brucecampbell replied to brucecampbell's topic in Troubleshooting, Workarounds, & Bugs
So $60 NZD + $150 postage I bought my second HC800 from ebay, its the one still working. My original controller purchased new is the one which has now failed. I need to find some decent surge protection. -
Possible power surge damage?

Already tried a different power supply, but no luck. I can hear the fan working, but no lights, not even the power light shows up. -
I've had a power surge kill my primary controller. I'm moving the important stuff over to the other HC800. My dealer has helped get me up and running, but a few things are popping up as I complete more testing. Its after hours now, so I'm after advice for how to get my serial devices online now. I run a DMX controller and DSC IT100 alarm integration via serial. Both are showing as offline. I think it is due to them both having a licence attached to the old controller. How do I get the licenses ok for the new controller and back online? hoping I don't need to wait for the dealer to help next week.. Cheers.

Thanks for the advice. Just waiting on quotes from my dealer now. Might look at a Core 5 and IO Extender. Cheers. -
Possible power surge damage?

Talked to my dealer, tried a factory restore, but nothing happened. So I'm now after advice on replacements. I'm assuming the HC800 is obsolete, so I will need one of the new controllers. 1. how do I know which controller is best for my needs? Connections in use: I have around 36 zigbee dimmers and keypads 3 serial 8 IR out 7 Contacts 5 relays 4 Audio out 2. Can I use my other HC800 to run as a slave? Would I have to stay on V3.2 to keep an HC800 in my project? what would be the best option to run all the extra contacts, relays etc - assuming the most a controller has is 4 of each? Cheers. -
I've just had power restored after two days without. I have two HC800's The primary sounds like the fan is working, but no blue light has come on, and I've got no connection to C4 The slave looks like it has come back online ok. Any advice on figuring out if the HC800 is fried?

Thanks, I've downloaded and it is working well so far.

I'm hoping to set up the my home app(or what ever it is called for V3.n) on my Surface Pro tablet. I'm struggling to find any info on how or if this is possible? All I see are options for Apple and Android. Help please

A and B speakers for different Rooms
brucecampbell replied to brucecampbell's topic in Best Practices
I knew someone was going to say that... One day I'll get more equipment, but for now the A/B works 'ok' so was hoping there was some form of control where C4 knows the amp is in use and does not turn it off.... I suppose its not a usual way of doing things, so there is probably no need for C4 to have a solution. -
It's not perfect, but it works... mostly. I have two rooms which use the same receiver, I just switch between A or B or A+B when listening to music. One problem is they are treated as independent sources, On the odd occasion where I have both rooms playing music at the same time, if I turn off one room, the other room thinks it is still on, but the receiver is off. Is there a solution here?

How do I debug a network issue
brucecampbell replied to brucecampbell's topic in Troubleshooting, Workarounds, & Bugs
Thanks Ryan, I'll give it a go. Though, how would this identify an issue if it is with the switch? The switch is unmanaged. wont any errors show up as failing at my router? cheers. -
I have found an ongoing problem where my internet drops off for a very short time. My ISP reports no faults on their service. Is there a way to determine if my switch or router are the cause? Noting I do not have other hardware to swap out in their place to run testing. Router: Asus RT-AC66U Switch: Level One GSW-1657 16 port gigabit switch Cheers.
