My oversight - I forgot that the driver you're talking about is IP.  In my project, I'm using an older JVC IR driver, and have tweaked it as needed to get the functionality I need.

So yeah, you'd have to switch drivers to get this working.  I don't know if this will create more problems than it will solve for you.  I had looked for IP codes for the new Anamorphic modes, but wasn't able to find them (and was told by some that they weren't available).

Let me know if you want to pursue the IR driver option.

Cool thanks, will cross my fingers they update it, otherwise will probably have to create some presets for C and D.

I don't think this is an accurate assessment.

I think more accurate would be that there are certainly some people who don't find this remote ideal for one reason or another.

There is also a group for which this remote hits the target dead center.

Yikes, a niche product limited to an even smaller number of users (OS3).

Yeah. I was fortunate enough to be on an inside track (of sorts) in this one and have been using it for a few months.

Sorry about posting that, then deleting it, now posting it again. Someone took something I said out of context and it made me nervous for some reason. Don’t want to mess up these inside tracks. LOL

You deserve to be on the inside track.  You helped a lot of people (myself included) learn about C4 with the forum.

    Probably a good guess.

If Apple integration isn't supported on the HC800 now, if there's additional Apple integration, it likely also won't be supported on the HC800.

Most other drivers likely wouldn't be an issue.

YES PLEASE to SIRI integration, now that is worth a controller upgrade.

Stating that “There is nothing revolutionary or evolutionary about that function” tells me that you have some in-depth knowledge about Control4 hardware and software that I’m not aware of.  I know that what C4 does may seem trivial and could easily be done on hardware as simple as a Raspberry PI but I assure you, it is not.

Having worked at Control4 for over a decade, I’ve been in many meetings where product managers are desperately trying to figure out how to NOT deprecate hardware.  Sometimes the problem is limited engineering resources and sometimes it is the result of hardware limitations that can’t be overcome.

I can confidently tell you that the decision to deprecate hardware is never taken lightly and has never been done with the intent to sell something new and better.

I stand by my comment that there is nothing revolutionary or evolutionary about sending RS232/IR/Relay signals. The Control4 system as a whole is both revolutionary and evolutionary, sending basic signals by a slave controller, not so much.

I'm glad that Control4 does everything in its power to not deprecate hardware.  However, for whatever reasons some of which you have outlined, the HC250 is now useless beyond 2.10, 7 years after it was sold as a behind the TV I/O and OSD device.  So what next?  Buy an EA1 so it's EOL'ed in 4 years, again and again or just a buy a third party device that is less expensive and will perform the basic set of functions that people use the HC250 for?

    As to your comment:

"tells me that you have some in-depth knowledge about Control4 hardware and software that I’m not aware of."

I have been a Control4 customer for nearly 8 years and have referred many other people to Control4.  A quick perusal of my posting history would have given you an idea of how much dumber I am then a Control4 engineer.

I agree. There are many contradictory statement on this site -- I want better functionality but please have it work on 7 year old equipment. Hard to reconcile those two bits and I don't know how anyone can expect C4 to upgrade software and functionality, keep adding drivers to make sure many (many!) devices work in concert, and have it all function smoothly on a Pentium processor! IMO C4 is doing the right thing most of the time -- maintain a compelling user experience, keep it reasonably priced, keep it compatible, and keep response times short. So I'm going to be an outlier and say that while I'm as eager for increased functionality as any geek, I understand that evolving equipment and software takes time and money.

Sending IR/RS232/Audio/Relay/Zigbee signals shouldn't require updated hardware.  There is nothing revolutionary or evolutionary about that function and Control4 has already shown that OSD can be disabled.

There are a lot of ways to make money but forcing your customers to replace equipment that adds nothing to the customer experience is disingenuous.

Some of these comments seem short sighted.

It’s not like your devices stop working... You just can’t upgrade.

We’re all in our lines of work to make money.  Control 4 doesn’t charge for upgrades, but they should keep developing advancements so you guys can get new features for free using all of your same old garbage? Come on now.

Ooohhh I want the latest and greatest. Cool. Pay for it.

You think in 5 years Ring is going to be handing out free feature updates? I mean how many Rings doorbells are out now since the original? Isn’t the first one pretty much obsolete now? Aren’t the latest models different sizes and shapes from the original too?

Very true, except a Ring Door Bell doesn't cost $1k and require you to cut into your brick, cedar, aluminum siding.

Because, at least for the two you mentioned, they were already limited in their use for some time. And they're more complex than, say, an i/o extender to boot. At some point, items have to be dropped in their support. 'just keeping it on an older firmware' is not as simple as it sounds, you still have to develop against them as you move forward.

Note that this is coming from someone who 'lost' 6 touchscreens from his system, plus controllers. Not to mention every last single piece of hardware C4 ever supported  - I may not always be happy about it, but I understand the need to stop supporting gear that can't keep up. Trying to maintain them IS a huge deal.

Which begs the question.  Why buy Control4 Door stations, touchscreens, speaker points and even slave controllers when it is such a huge deal for Control4 to maintain?  They brag about supporting 13,500 third party devices, aren't we better off buying those whenever possible?

In an update mainly focused on UI changes, I can't understand why they stop support of items like door stations and speaker points. Even a controller that is more a slave than a primary unit, why would you not just support it albeit on older firmware?

All driven at selling more hardware. In an industry of pretty poor suppliers and some new upcoming players why would you alienate everyone?

They make money on the sale of hardware, not really the sale of software.

It's crazy when people throw out comparisons of upgrading your iPhone every 2 years.  I use my iPhone more then my Control4 system in its entirety, let alone a touchscreen, controller, etc.

Chalk it up as a lesson learned and minimize your investment in Control4 products.  Whenever possible buy third party products.  No more touchscreens, speaker points and controllers behind TV's for me.
