  1. I ended up having to replace a ClimateMaster Tranquility 27 (circa 2009) with a ClimateMaster Tranquility 30 a little over a week ago.

I didn't have C4 when I got the unit in 2009, but we had installed enough EWC Zoning Control boards to make it work with the C4 Thermostats.

Now I'm wondering if I should have researched harder about how well C4 Thermostats work with this system and if there is a better solution than hooking the zones up to the UZC4 (and an auxiliary EWC board to get to my 6 zones).

My Geo only seems to run about 40 minutes before it quits running even if the thermostats and EWC are calling for cooling.  Not sure when my HVAC guy is going to make it out so I'm looking at the C4 side of things while I wait.

There are very few threads on HVAC here, but has anybody done anything like this recently, especially mixing new Geo units with 10-15 year old tech from EWC and C4?

  2. I've never felt the need for a driver with my system.  At least on my system, if it doesn't run when it is directed to by the moisture sensor built into the system it will never catch up.  It's not a system I think I will be successful trying to micromanage.

On this thread, I'm still more concerned with what has happened to the Sleep Number driver. It sounded promising back in November but still nothing.

I get that, but the same driver author started this thread over a year ago, it also sounded like it was close, and nothing since.

Since this thread is more active I thought maybe I'd get lucky and get an update.

First part of the TVs manual - "For Indoor Use Only"

Fair enough.  Now how do I handle the HDMI extender?  No real point in having one been outdoor rated and the other not being outdoor rated.

Would prefer to avoid a full TV enclosure.

  5. Since this topic came up--I had an integrator tell me that if you have an issue with a TV that is not outdoor rated, and there is a loss, insurance might not cover it. Has anybody heard that before?

I trust the guy to not be blowing smoke about that, but not enough that I am that worried about a TV catching fire.

Control4 also made 2.9.1 there last os update. I can't predict the future but should be no reason to remove the iox from control4.

Yes, I will keep them as long as I can.  I do remember having issues with upgrades with one of my IOX numerous times in the 2.x era, so I don't have that issue any more at least.  So they are generally solid.

    CA10 as main controller

    Core5 for Zigbee and audio

Rest depends on what further IO, OSD and music streaming needs you have

Both racks include IO Extenders already, and the number of concurrent streams should be relatively low (2-3 at most?).

Main central rack (best for Zigbee?) will have the CA10 and the Core 5/Core 3

Theater rack would be better with a Core 5 for aesthetics, but I would think I could make a Core 3 work.

Are you saying Core 5 is going to be noticably preferable to Core 3 for Zigbee by itself, or only for better audio capabilities?

Just thinking about the price difference to go with two Core 5 vs two Core 3. That's going to add up.

Depends on if you're using the processor as audio sources into distribution.

I am, but there shouldn't be very many concurrent sources...I mean, I had HC250s and HC300s that I lost as I moved to OS3 and was down to one HC800 in my main rack, and everything is running properly now.  I would hope the audio capabilities of a Core 3 would at least be comparable to a HC800.

I will say, the core units and ca10 units are definitely  much faster.

One of our drivers (so far) actually detects and processor, and if it's one of those two, it doubles the speed of initialization (the driver requires a lot of connection commands)

Sorry for jumping in on an older thread,

Is there anything you see now or on the horizon that would drive you towards a Core 5 instead of a Core 3 for optimal performance of newer drivers like you describe?

I'm in a position where I'm going to be upgrading and adding a CA-10, where I previously had two HC800s.  Because of the size of my Zigbee mesh, I need to decide if I am buying two Core 5s, a Core 3 and a Core 5, or two Core 3s.  I'm trying to avoid the cost of the Core 5 since these are just going to be secondary processors to the CA-10, and I think realistically with the size and complexity of my project, a CA-10 may be underutilized as is.

They need to find someone else. Most good dealers enjoy taking on existing systems. As long as its a good experience it will always lead to additional business later on.

That was not my experience when I needed a rescue about 10 years ago.  And this was going through Control4.  They basically found one dealer to take it.  I am an hour away from a metro area though...

Even if they do allow you to become a dealer they may take it away at anytime...

We were a dealer (not massive) but ticking over, had about a dozen systems installed and then one day C4 told us no longer a dealer as didnt want to dilute for other installers, and that was it, no real notice, just chopped us off...

What happens to customers when the original dealer disappears? Most dealers don't seem to want to take on rescues, which is basically what the former customers become...

I’m not sure that is 100% fair.  I have got 10s of third party drivers (quite possibly over 100) and I’ve really never had any real issues with licence transfers (when changing controllers or with changes like this one - where I’ve very easily moved 5 or 6 drivers from Blackwire to DC (adding the new driver just worked - both in terms of licensing and programming)).  While I do recall some challenges a decade ago, even then my dealer was able to get everything sorted.  In recent years, licensing issues have simply been a non-issue for me.

I have also found virtually all third party developers to be extremely helpful…

Never had any Houselogix drivers did you?

That's not normal, I have 4 of these but the version without the keyhole otherwise identical and I've had them for 6+ years and they look exactly the same as the day I bought them, same color/finish also.  Do you live by the ocean or something as it almost looks like salt or corrosion.

Nowhere near the ocean.  But as we see from Ryan's response (this admitted manufacturing defect was news to me), it isn't normal.
