Honestly, if I could find a decent replacement for the in-wall touchscreens, we would probably follow this route as well. The only thing keeping us from doing it is the family uses the in-wall touchscreens for intercoms (including from the phone apps). We could probably live without a phone app, but the lack of intercoms would be very noticed.

I have a Tempest and use IFTTT to pull in the wind speed (since there wasn't a driver available when I installed it). I wanted to use it to automatically raise and lower some outdoor shades when the wind speed got too high, then lower the shades when the wind speed dropped for an adequate time period.
While I like the Tempest, it does seem to flake out sometimes. I'll be getting "high wind speed" warnings, and I'll literally be standing outside with almost no wind blowing. I've been standing next to the Tempest when it was reading 40+ MPH wind speeds and felt just a light breeze.

I've set up two independent Control4 systems in two different homes. Other than the two new controllers (since it was easier to have my dealer program the controllers while he had them there) and a couple new touchscreens (when I couldn't find the size/color that I needed second-hand), basically everything I bought was used. I have had one - only one - piece of equipment fail, and it was a touchscreen that died after more than two years of use. That would have put it outside the two-year warranty offered by Control4, so new/used would not have mattered. Even if it did, my total cost of each system was like 33% of retail for all of the equipment, so I came out far ahead buying used.

Many thanks to Coolabode for helping to upgrade my system and fix some issues. Everything went smoothly, and they were very responsive. Great service and great price.

I'll also put in a plug for Neil. I've used him twice on my project and he's top notch.
