    love my unifi!
personally if you're going to do it yourself and manage it yourself because you have the knowledge, I felt the unifi was the best bang for the $$.

@Versafel Systems@ejn1 First, thanks for the guidance on grounding / lightning protection for Cat6 cables that originate outside the house and terminate directly into a switch.  I clearly missed adding the surge protection -- I am fixing now (you have got me worried that I am going to fry my networking gear).
With respect to monitoring either a generator or a battery pack, I suggest using Shelly Plus One and the Shelly Add-on.  Both of these devices are inexpensive and integrate well using the Chowmain Shelly Driver.  The Add-on has a built-in voltmeter.  I have a 17kg Generac natural gas generator.  Natively, there is no integration into C4.  Using 3 Shelly Plus One devices, each with a Shelly Add-On, I am monitoring the voltage on the red, green, yellow, LED indicator lights on the generator.  When the voltage is above a threshold, I know which of the LED lights is on.  I have a custom button with a "happy generator" for the green LED and a custom button with a red X for when the red LED is illuminated (an SMS is also sent).
The above works great and provides confidence that the generator is being monitored at all times.  The total cost of the integration is c$70 for the materials and no subscription fees.

Thanks, i was going to run the cat 5e in a conduit as well for protection.

Thanks for the advice, I wasnt familiar with the DiTek but it looked a lot more robust than the Unifi and you only have to run one ground wire to the outside for multiple ports.   I will likely place also on the exterior wall a Ruckus T310 since I'm pulling the wire anyway it's nice to get a better wifi signal outside as well.

That’s how we did it but ran through conduit to the pool house (about 200’ I think) and cat6 to pool controller, WiFi AP etc. generators are in a different location but also through conduit. Our exterior runs (these plus cameras) run through a bunch of rack mounted surge protectors that work great. Never had an issue with any of them.

I just ran burial grade cat 6 for my outdoor stuff and stuff between buildings. I’ve had zero issues with it. Probably 5 years strong so far.

For your generator look up a project call Genmon. That what I use to monitor mine and best of all it’s free.

You can manage this from the app on your phone.
Hamburger icon top left, then settings wheel bottom left. Go to preferences, un-toggle "enable intercom".

I had one touch. Laggy and connection not reliable. Will wait for v2 (don’t know if planned) which hopefully will have much better radios and battery life.

No suggestions here but have same issue on 2 of my Halo Touch units which happens about every 2-3 weeks.  Usually just have to do a restart but the most recent unit I did a factory reset and it pushed new firmware as well which is odd seeing that it was on the system for the past 4 months.

I have Ruckus Wifi 6 APs and they are blazing fast.  I would think only if you have a lot of band interference, Wifi 7 wouldnt give your use case a lot of benefit for the cost.

I was referring to a couple of dimensions, 1) Cloud Access / GUI for those that find this important and 2) the quality and details of the GUI while accessing within the local network.   As a contrast, I love Mikrotik gear but their routerOS GUI is much more complicated to navigate for an average user....

Ditto Audioengines.. If you get the A2's, get the small stand that pivots them up slightly.   In that price range they cant be beat.   If you want to step up in cost and size there are additional options..

Fear is a bit much, but yes Josh won't be integrated in new setups much if at all at this point.

Note that just because there's litigation that doesn't mean there isn't or won't be cooperation. There may not even be any real 'bad blood' at all between the two. This is COMPANY relations we're talking about, not personal relations.

The BAF mobile app firmware is not compatible with v1 /haiku app firmware and vice versa.

That being said, the v2/BAF firmware and driver (free upgrade for v1 users) is significantly better. And we've only maybe had 1 or 2 support enquiries. One is an issue with Alexa (which turned out isn't a bug with our driver, and may be resolved by now), the second is something we're investigating (led button colour issue for configurable keypads), which doesn't affect the operation of the driver

To be clear, IQ panels have full built in back up (or if needed primary) monitoring via cellular.

? C4 has a full security interface compatible with numerous systems, neo included.
To be clear, the DSC NEO line is fully integrated into C4. It's one of many.
Yes details on 'specialty' functions will differ per panel (ie you cant get IQ weather alerts to show via C4, or it's built in snapshot of who disarmed) but basic functions like arm/disarm and standard keypad functions are supported in every panel that has a driver: if it didn't....it wouldn't have a driver. I don't even understand how you dealer is unsure of if it does basic arming or not...

    https://www.control4.com/o/osd-how-do-i/
scroll to security and watch the vid, it'll give you a decent basic idea of how alarm panels integrate into control4
Now I can't recall the details on what functions under the function menu are available in the neo panel, such as bypass or fire clearance, but for bypass you can always learn the keypad presses (which would be the same ones the alpha numeric neo keypad uses) to do that part at least.

On a side note, the IQ4 panel can use all dsc neo (powerg) sensors, so SHOULD you decide to change, it would be relatively painless.

If for control (not schedules) you should indeed be fine with this, though I still recommend putting (at this point any old) router behind it. Loopback ports are an option, but just getting any old cheap router is just that much easier.

I have done a simple zigbee and ir system without internet, but with a router in place. I set the controller to a static ip, and it has been working fine for years. It was in a boardroom and the IT guys did not want it on there commercial network.

Got my Halo and Core1 setup today. The Halo sat on the charging base about 16 hours before I had time to set it up with the new project. Obviously I haven't had it long enough to comment on battery life. Will know more soon on that as the charging base is not adjacent to our normal chairs for watching TV -- it will get left off the charger soon enough. I don't have uAPSD as an option on my WiFi either.
New remote coupled with an entirely new project, so I would assume that impacted the Halo. The project was still being tweaked after the Halo was added. A few hours later and it seems to be responsive and stable.
The screen is nicer than I expected. Not being a touch screen, I was skeptical but it was very easy to read. We never accessed Dish Hopper DVR media directly before because the SR-260 was too hard to read. Now we will use that feature. I do think this media list UI could be better. Since it is not touch screen, I think it could be a lot denser and there needs to be some sort of animation or feedback when scrolling down the list. The only way to see that you have changed episodes is to read the recording date.
Maybe they are trying to use the same display of the media as will be needed for a the Halo Touch. I'd rather see more with less dead space. I get it for the Touch.
Siri works as advertised. Had to turn Siri off and back on in the AppleTV to make it work. After that, no issues at all. I'll be happy to put that tiny Siri Remote in the drawer.
Very hopeful. I see a lot of potential.

I would also say give things a chance. This is a brand new remote with new technology and new firmware. There's only been one production release and I imagine that further releases will enhance the experience. Don't consider it. A never to be updated product. There will be updates coming out

Have only had the Halo for 24 hours, but not really seeing the huge battery drain problem that some are seeing. I’m also using a UniFi AP at 2.4GHz.

So far I’m really liking the remote. Solid design and just the right size for my hands.
