  1. As somebody mentioned before, central distribution made a lot of sense when devices were bulky and expensive. Is it always necessary? A Roku device that costs a maximum $99 (often way less) that can offer access to pretty much any TV service needed, including core channels, live sports (using for ex YoutubeTV, Sling,...) and obviously all movies and TV series streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, Apple TV, HBO Max,...) with minimal limitations of concurrent streams. They are tiny and perfectly controlled by Control4. Most users don't play DVDs anymore and don't need access to a Satellite or Cable receiver thanks to services above. One caveat is audio and it will depend on each situation. But again, there may be very elegant and cost effective solutions to have high quality audio for those TVs, well managed by Control4 without the need to deploy a complex and expensive HDMI matrix... I am not advocating against that approach but a strong internet connection, solid WiFi coverage, a few Roku devices, possibly an Audio Matrix and most importantly a great Control4 programer/installer may be a great way to save a lot of money, minimize complexity (and ongoing support costs) and offer an excellent user experience.
  2. Thanks RyanE for the feed-back. Unless I am missing something, my preference would be to use a simple cable from my Control4 receiver to the control system (vs RF or other as easier and more reliable). I think some control systems can be connected that way (all I need is on/off), especially as some of them can be controlled via a low voltage wall switch. Specific systems recommendations would be great or what to look for/check when deciding on control systems. Not stuck on Real Fyre but like their logs... Thanks again
  3. I am about to install a gas fireplace that would be right behind my AV cabinet where my Control4 controller is. I would like to control this fireplace via my Control4 system and ideally manually too (sometimes easier and more convenient to do that use Control4 remote control or even keypad. WAF...). I have a few free contacts/relays free on my controller I could use to connect. What is your system recommendation for a gas fireplace and how do I make sure the one I buy would be controllable by Control4. I did research but it is quite confusing... I am leaning towards Real Fyre and their controls page is not helpful... at least to me Thanks
  4. Just get some velux windows installed and they have solar powered motorized blinds built in. They are controlled by remote controls that can be connected to “some” home automation systems (HomeKit for sure) via the Velux Active kit. Does anyone know if they can be controlled from Control4 and if it requires a specific version of Velux Active. Thanks a lot.
  5. Very excited for you Neil. But a big loss for many of us and the broader Control4 community. Your talent and attitude will be missed by all of us who have interacted with you over the years. All the best for your new role and I have no doubt you will do incredibly well.
  6. By the way, Baldwin lock works great. Very reliable and batteries last months. And you get warnings when batteries run low.
  7. Have you looked at the Monoprice HDMI switches? Cheap and in my experience, have always worked well. I know they have 5x1 HDCP 2.2 models. https://www.monoprice.com/category/adapters,-switches,-&-splitters/audio-video-distribution/audio-video-switches A good installer will program your Control4 quickly to enable full control via IR.
  8. Hey Alan, thanks for taking the time to reply. I reached out to Audioquest and here is their response All our HDMI cables are capable of carrying signals up to 18 Gbps as per HDMI 2.0 specs. That includes UHD/4K – 30 Hz – HDR (with Chroma set to standard 4:2:0). With passive HDMI cables these values can be stretched a bit, with active cables (10 meter / 30 ft and up)these values are pretty strickt. Which AQ HDMI cable and which length do you use? The usual suspect for ‘bandwidth overload’ is the Chroma setting. Please check if the Nvidia unit is set to 4:2:0. Also, is HDMI pass-through enabled in your AV receiver? It seems that if I could reduce the resolution of my Shield to 4K 30Hz HDR 4:2:0, I should be ok. I think this is what I have my Roku at. But I can't manage to change the resolution (always default to autodetect and can't start in safe mode - A-B pressing on USB keyboard not working...). Coincidentally, I have just received my IRUSB and ready to go on Control4! Thanks again for any suggestion you may have. And running a cable directly between TV and Stealth is really not a practical option based on physical configuration...
  9. I am waiting for my IRUSB to be able to control my new Nvidia Stealth. But I have hit a wall on connecting it to my TV via my Denon X220W receiver. After some extensive troubleshooting, I have come to the conclusion that the HDMI from the receiver to the TV is the culprit, even though it is successfully passing a 4K 30Hz HDR signal from my Roku... Basically, the unit boots and I see the Nvidia logo on the screen for a few seconds but then a black screen and no signal error message when it moves to a higher resolution and normally shows the Android logo. Immensely frustrating... The cable is an expensive Audioquest Forest run in the wall about 4 years ago. Basically, quasi impossible to swap. For some stupid reasons, a conduit was not installed... Luckily enough, I had requested a couple of CAT6 cables going from the receiver area to the TV. My questions... and all help would be great! - any suggestions on the Stealth unit to address the issue? It seems to be the result of the unit defaulting to a resolution higher than what the cable can support. I have tried to force a lower res on the unit (connected to another TV or via another cable) but it does not seem to "Save". - can I "boost" my HDMI signal? I don't remember the exact length of the cable but I suspect it is around 25ft or more. I can't find my invoice not the box and I don't think it says on the cable. If so, what would be a good and cost effective solution? - as last resort, could I use one of my CAT6 cables? And if so, what is your recommendation to enable, minimizing cost and maximizing quality and flexibility. Thanks a lot in advance once again for your precious help. I have to admit it has been very frustrating... Note: I am adding the Stealth to my ATV and Roku as I need to run a VPN to access some foreign programs. Unfortunately not a (at least performing) option on the other boxes...
  10. Can you provide more details on the changes/additions and how to get them. Thanks
  11. Thanks. Very helpful and good to know. Now the issue is to find a Shield Pro. They seem to be out of stock everywhere... I will return my regular one to Amazon and I hope it gets back in stock soon. Curious if anyone know where I can find one. Actually two. Thanks again!
  12. I apologize if it has already been covered but I want to make sure I dont make wrong assumptions: - can the regular Shield be controlled by Control4 or does it require a pro? - I’m confused on the drivers : seems that Videostorm and Chowmain have both a driver. Others? Is there a simple comparison and/or recommendation? - are there ways to create shortcuts (like mini apps) beyond traditional channels? I’m using Shield with a VPN for foreign TV apps/channels. thanks a lot in advance for help!
  13. Neil helped me again recently and as always, was great to work with. His knowledge is incredible and he truly cares about what he does and his customers‘ satisfaction. So great to be able to rely on him. He is the man!
  14. You can also use a Roku and create a shortcut to YouTube TV
  15. Has anyone tested those and will there be a way to control them in Control4? https://www.theverge.com/2019/10/3/20893709/ikeas-smart-blinds-review-fyrtur-kadrilj
  16. Is Amazon Music High Def available with a HC800 or only with an EA5?
  17. On a related note, can you create a Favorite "Home" page in Composer Home Edition or directly on iphone? One that would include shortcuts to activities from various rooms (ex. alarm, key lights, music...). Thanks
  18. I have a firewall that is blocking a connection from my main C4 controller to the IP address 50.63.202.68:443. I tried to look it up but could not find useful details. Does anyone know if it is legit and why my controller tries to connect to this server. I can whitelist the address and want to check first. Thanks
  19. It looks like all those new products are officially released in March.
  20. Another big plug for Neil who upgraded my install to 2.10 with zero pain while helping retire my HC300 and replace it with a new Z2IO that actually is great! It is always a pleasure to work with Neil - not only he is incredibly talented and professional but he is also such a gentleman! I wish I had met him years ago for my initial install. Now I know him, he is my absolutely go to person and I trust him 100%. Who thought upgrading or troubleshooting an installation could be fun and painless rather than a chore and a fight with you dealer. Thanks Neil for being here and supporting so many of us!
  21. Cool. Look forward to it. I will create an account to be kept in the loop. For Screenlogic, I may be incorrect. But this is the same of the app that runs on iPhone and laptops. But it is based on both Easytouch and Intellitouch. In other terms, there is no standalone Screenlogic. I suspect Sally is referring to Easytouch (as opposed to Intellitouch). And I know one of the main differences between Intelli and Easy is the lack of third party access for Easy while Intelli allows it including with Control4. But by all means, try to see if Pentair would relax that and allow a Control4 driver.
