  1. The only relevant thing I'll mention now is that it works the best with Roku. It has also been tested on android as well (just requires a little more set up in the beginning). Haven't tried it on Apple TV, but I'd imagine it would work on that too. I built it because I wanted integration with Josh.ai channels ("hey josh, watch cnn" or "hey josh, watch the eagles game"). So it supports Josh too. . It also supports all of the standard room favoriting, etc like the real channels driver.
  2. Stay tuned. I’ve got a driver that will soon be listed on Driver Central that solves these issues. It works with Multi Display too
  3. Unfortunately, it's not as simple as that. One, you have very limited control as to what qualifies as room context aware in groups (this is an Amazon restriction). For example, lights, TV, thermostat. But not any trigger you want. Second, C4 intentionally cobbles their implementation so that most devices are not exposed correctly. So the net result is you can basically only do a few very basic tasks with room context, like turn off the lights.
  4. All, A few updates. I've switched this over to MQTT and Berto to increase the stability. So now you will be required to use an MQTT broker and Berto agent driver. I've also decided to open source it. The repository is here: https://github.com/terminaldisclaimer/C4AlexaRoomAwareness This also includes links to the DockerImage too.
  5. Well can you send me logs…and perhaps we can take this to DM. I’m not planning on turning this into a support thread since it’s not ready yet. Did you actually get it connected?
  6. If you think you can run a docker container. I’d hook you up. If you have something like unraid or even a spare raspberry pi, that would work
  7. Hi all, So for years it has really annoyed me that C4 chose not to expose devices properly to Alexa such that you can take full advantage of Alexa's built in room context awareness. What do I mean by this? Imagine you want to say "Alexa, turn off the tv." Wouldn't it be cool if it knew which room you were in and turned off the correct TV? Well you can't currently because C4 has chosen to show devices like TVs to Alexa as light switches instead of TVs. Not sure why, but I guess it doesn't matter. Amazon also limits room room awareness to certain devices. My driver solves this problem and removes any restrictions. It allows you to know for any Alexa routine which Alexa device triggered it. And it puts it in a variable you can use in C4 programming So I have the driver working, but I need some beta testers to test it. And here is the catch: it requires a nodejs component to be hosted somewhere. Theoretically this could be a C4 controller, but I wouldn't recommend it. I've created some docker containers to make it easy. I'm looking for some volunteers to help me test it. Ideally, it would be someone with some nodejs experience. But the ability to host docker images is a requirement. Obviously, being able to add drivers to C4 and program it is a requirement too. Any takers? Thanks, TD
  8. The big issue for DIY is the lack of a solid unified remote control. HomeAssistant is pretty good. You pair it with Lutron lighting system, and it comes pretty darn close to Control4 (assuming you don't care about the TV interfaces). But what all of the DIY systems all lack is a solid remote control you can use with them. Sure, you can hack stuff together. And maybe there is some weird stuff out there, like Ava or something. But the remote options are not abundant. That's why I ultimately chose C4.
  9. @videostorm. Does your C4 skill treat fans in C4 as fans in Alexa? I would love to have context in each room to say "turn off the fan." But as far as I can tell, that only works if the fan actually shows up as a fan device within Alexa. If it shows up as a light or switch it may not work fully. I think it might technically work as a "light," but then it will turn off when you say turn off the lights, which is not ideal for my situation.
  10. I'm not sure that will be that possible. I don't think this beds are as simple as some of the other devices out there.
  11. I have the same problem with my Frame TV. It's a 2020 model year I believe. I wouldn't say it takes minutes, but at least 30-60 seconds some time. This is from when it is in art mode until it turns on.
  12. For what it's worth. The problem is solved. It was a messed up wifi setup. It must not have totally stuck the first time. A total factory reset with network settings--did the trick.
  13. My new wifi chime works great, video works, intercom works, external chime works. Signal strength is -49. The only thing is that when the light ring around the doorbell is enabled it is constantly doing a fast blinking of on/off to white. And it doesn't matter how many times it is rebooted or factory reset. Any ideas on what the issue is?
  14. You know can you run 100mbit Ethernet over hdbaseT right? Doesn’t that solve most of your problem?
  15. I would have thought for sure they would have added Alexa. Although, I'm not surprised given its C4 and they do things very incrementally. I'm guessing they will in the future though given the emphasis on "microphones."
  16. If you really wanted to do this, I think it would be possible now with a CA-10. Definitely not supported, but possible.
  17. This is definetly true. But it’s not like you are doing this every day. It’s also technically possible to do it without creating scenes in Lutron, but I wouldn’t recommend it as the lights won’t be synchronized.
  18. I'd really test a Neeo out if you can. They are not for everybody. I personally hate them. But others here have sung its praises. They can be tricky to use with normal cable boxes though. Most people who say they like the Neeo have cut the cord. As for C4 Lighting vs. Lutron, you'll want to dig into the specifics. There are some differences in terms of functionality, especially with respect to keypad functionality. But they are relatively minor, and would just depend on the specifics of what you are looking to control. I personally like not having a single point of failure, which is why I chose Lutron. And Lutron's system is a solid as solid can be. You will literally not find a single piece of negative feedback about the reliability of their products (at least the professional ones). The final consideration is whether you want panelized lighting or not. Lutron has that too, but it is not diy, and I suspect C4 is going to be way cheaper in that regard. Finally, I'm a huge believer in Roku. And the reason for that is private listening mode. I don't know of a single other streamer with that feature. The basic idea is you can stream the audio through your phone. That is awesome for night viewing, and even better because it means you don't have to screw around with pairing your headphones to different devices.
  19. One thing jumps out to me. It may be overkill for you to have a video matrix (if some of your sources are going to be at the TV anyway. Just something to consider. The reality is that everything is moving to streaming anyway. And it's going to be way cheaper for you to get Apple TVs/Rokus at each TV over using HDbaseT. It might make more sense for you to just have HDBaseT for your receiver (but no matrix). Shades won't be an issue since those are primarily wireless (although can be wired too). Lutron is great. As for lighting, since you seem DIY-oriented. You may want to consider RadioRa2. Those can be purchased as a consumer (and programmed), but are "professional" and have great compatibility with C4. Neeo - I'd read the feedback on that before you jump in. And see if you can test one out first. Thermostats - even though they aren't fancy looking. I'd probably get C4 ones. Ecobee seems to constantly get disconnected for me. Locks - love them. I have Yale. Just make sure you are getting C4-compatible ones.
  20. I've heard some people say that the command "rm -Rf /*" configured there Triad One. Now I'm not saying that would work. In fact I'm definitely saying it won't work--and you probably shouldn't try it. But that's what some people are saying.
  21. Hi, I live in a condo. And I have access to our buildings surveillance system via a public IP address and an RTSP stream. I can't integrate directly with these cameras as the DVR does not appear to have the ability to generate snapshots. So I used to recapture the buildings cameras on my Synology and integrate it with C4 via the old houselogix driver. This worked great until it didn't. The driver is no longer maintained and doesn't seem to work. So what I'm looking for is a physical NVR (i.e. not blue iris) that I could buy that would recapture the RTSP streams and integrate well with C4. Any recommendations? Would luma work even though my cameras are non-luma cameras? Thanks
  22. What if you wanted to implement this functionality on multiple Neeo remotes? How would you know which remote pressed the button?
  23. Well I guess not entirely When I first asked my question, I honestly couldn't remember what the issue was other than it had to do with some change in the 3.x app. But now that I do...I guess my question is this: Joel said that C4 was considering re-implementing the ability to manually add a controller IP address. Can you share what the current status of those discussions are? I'm not looking at specifics, but rather on a scale of no chance in hell to next release, what's the probability this will get re-added?
  24. In that thread another C4 employee, who said they were manager of mobile, stated they were aware of the issue, and said it had to do with removing the manual IP setting.
  25. Did you fix the issue of not being able to use a VPN (instead of 4sight) with the mobile client yet?
